my clips are not funked up, but just have the parkerized coating. I use steel wool on them. Takes less than a minute. Rub them down on the inside until they feel nice and smooth.

the booklet that came with my CMP Garand mentions ammo. It only says to not use bullet grains over 180. I have been shooting Prvi Partizen ball ammo out of mine now with no problems at all. I dunno, but I think if it was bad to shoot commercial ammo, the CMP would have said so????

I have two 30 round mags, they are both kind of iffy. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. But I am not going into battle with them. Kind of fun at the range. Seems like I will never run out of ammo when using them. Lots of good sources for accessories. Just google it up.

I dunno about the Ruger SAS. While it is heirloom quality and all I am not impressed by accuracy or the trigger at all. Mine shoots .22 mags very accurately, but not so much with regular .22's. Fine for plinking but I don't see it winning any bullseye competitions. Maybe I just suck at...

Isn't the date on the barrel just behind the front sight? It is probably a mixmaster, most M1's are.
