WCWHITEY - I've got gaschecks for both that were mentioned. I was just wondering how well they'd work without though. With the price of copper going way up, gas checks are going up too. Last time I bought any gaschecks for my 45 or 44, they were under $20 per 1000. Now even when ordering online...
RE-DO.........
I've tried the Hornady 75 gr V-Max with Varget, AA2520, & RE7. I just can't get them to group any better than a shotgun. I use a bushmaster Target master with a 1-9" twist. Go figure. But my rifle does like the 69 gr. Sierra Matchking & Varget.
I'm using straight wheelweights water quenched. My lube is 50/50 Beeswax/Alox. I don't expect to push them more than 1200 fps most likely between 1050 (.45) & 1150 (.44) fps.
How does this usually fair? I have a couple of molds in .45 & .44 (the 300 grainers by LEE) that produce gaschecked bullets. Now, If I shoot these without the gaschecks, how does that usually work out? Poor Accuracy? Poor Ignition? Or no noticable affect at all?
Is it not only possible but workable to load black powder in the 45 ACP & make a 1911 function? (Yes, it may not be practical but that's not the question here.)
I know if possible it'll be MUCH dirtier than regular smokeless powders, but I am curious if this is possible & a workable idea? Say...
I used a bottle of Lee's Alox mixed with a pound of Bee's Wax & haven't had a bit of leading in either my .44 mag nor any of my .45's (ACP or 45LC).
For lead, I use wheel weights only dropped into water for all my loads. That hardens them by dropping them into water.
A "small base sizing die" simply resizes brass to SAAMI standards. So what the clerk said doesn't make sense. Also, small base sizing dies are marked as such on the body of the die. I'm not sure what's causing your problem but sizing the brass certainly sounds like the problem. If factory ammo...
I have a .338 Win Mag that I had been using Leupold rings & mounts that had the large windage screws on the back mount. I was told that with the heavy recoil of the .338, that it was much better (stronger & safer) to use dove tail mounts both front & back. That way there was no way that the...
Very nice what you've done. It's a .300 what? Win Mag? I didn't see that mentioned. I took a beater Win M70 in .308 & had it customized into a real beaut of a .338 Win Mag. It's fun to do that.
I just got a box of Berger VLD's for my Remington 7mm Mag. Can't seem to be able to locate any data for this puppy. I also got some RE22 & RE25 for it. Anyone have data out there for this combo? Also using Remington 9 1/2 primers. I'm shooting a Remington Sendero with a 26" barrel.
Actually, data for the 6x45 is almost identical to the 6mm TCU. The only main differences there are the shoulder angle & neck length. The 6mm ppc is a totally different case. I don't know, maybe the reloading data is the same but the cases are not at all. Go to -...
I've always been told to either throw the steel stuff away or just don't pick it up. What I've been told is that they will fail, as all brass does too, but that steel does not give any warning signs like brass will. The steel just let's go & can cause either and/or damage to the gun. My 2cent's...
Thanks for all the info guys. Gun show this past weekend, I made a big leap & bought two cases of the Winchester WSR's for $92 & change each. Hope that was a good price. It appears to the best price around here in Phoenix I've found so far. Thanks again.
