Perhaps you're mis-remebering. .38's tend not to be as accurate out of a .357 because of the gap between the bullet and the barrel/chamber. This "jump" effects accuracy. Every time. It can get worse over time due to lead fouling/buildup. No danger that I know of, with normal cleaning...
