    Shooting my Ruger SFAR 308.

I've had this a couple of weeks. The 1st range trip was just to get it broken in and make sure it functioned. Got it out a 2nd time today. It shows potential for near MOA accuracy with SOME loads. It is pretty picky about what it shoots though. Most of the factory and handloads I tried...

    I bought the wrong gun!

And it turned out to be a good thing. I've never had much interest in PCC's but a while back I saw where S&W had introduced one in 9mm with an adapter to use either Smith M&P or Glock mags. I have a butt-load of Glock mags and the carbine looked interesting. But I really didn't pay much...

    Is this website legit.

I was searching for a deep carry pocket clip for a Benchmade knife. Did a search for "Benchmade" and this site popped up...

OK, which one of you is this.

I like knives as much as anyone, but this is literally carrying it a bit too far. Pun intended. And just like carrying a firearm I think carrying a knife should be kept concealed. Or at best low key. $100 says there are more than 2 folders in his pockets too.

    Timing: Bad, or maybe not.

I'm 65. I've never been the most prolific game killer, but I've had my share of success and killed a variety of game. Whitetails, black bear, turkey, lots of duck, a few geese, fox, coyote, as well as most small game. I've hunted in 5 states and overall had a lot of fun. At this point the...

    This deserves a discussion.

The previous thread was locked, correctly so, as a driveby. But this is I think a topic worth discussing so I'm bringing it back hopefully done right. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/some-said-it-would-never-happen-bye-bye-m4.924116/ I think it is a fair topic to discuss. I...

    Shadow Systems guns?

What about them. I went into a LGS this afternoon to pick up some ammo and overheard a clerk trying to sell one to another customer. I walked over, listened and asked a couple of questions after the other customer walked away. I'm not necessarily wanting to buy one, just trying to get...

    Paper shells

Found a deal on some shotshells at an Estate Sale last weekend. Two boxes of Fiocchi #2 steel shot and 2 boxes of Remington ShurShot #9's. Also included in the deal was a partial box (15 shells) of these old paper shells. Got everything for $40. Couple of questions about the paper shells...

    Good deals on Spyderco.

I'm on their E-Mail list and just got this today. Some of the best prices I've seen in a while. And these are great people to deal with. They have a showroom just outside of Chattanooga that I've visited. Last time I was up that way they had the showroom closed and were just doing on-line...

Tried some new 22 ammo today with good results.

Just a PSA for anyone looking for reasonably priced 22 ammo. I bought this some time back. I don't remember what I paid, but it was budget friendly. I want to say it was about $30 for 325 rounds but could be mistaken. I hadn't tried it yet and had almost forgot about it. It shot very well...

    That's not a knife!

Just keep it in your pocket. That was the response I got recently when I set off a metal detector. This is my favorite cheap, and if necessary, throw away knife. My wife and I recently returned from a trip to New England and this is the knife I chose to carry for just such situations...

    Wife's 1st turkey shoot.

I have been trying to get her to try shooting for almost 40 years. She turns 65 next month and has fired exactly 2 rounds through a 20 ga shotgun. She carries a Sig 365 and I can get her to practice just enough that I feel somewhat comfortable with her carrying, but she has been intimidated...

    Choke tube question

Some tubes, for example Winchester, Mossberg and some others are fairly short. At least in comparison to those used by Remington, Beretta, and others. Just for size reference all are 20 ga. The tube on the right is a standard Winchester/Mossberg style. The middle tube is a standard...

Went long with the 22 today.

I've shot as far as 250 yards in the past with a couple of my 22's, but it's been a while. And I've made some changes to optics which meant having to get things dialed in again. I tried a different scope a couple of weeks ago which I thought would be better but ran out of adjustment before...

    I think I need 2 more 30-06 rifles.

My wife and I bought a small travel trailer a few weeks ago. Went to pick up the tag today. I already have two 30-06 rifles. 2X2=4. So, I take this to mean I need to buy 2 more.

    Opinions wanted.

I recently purchased a new RemArms 870 and posted about it here. New RemArms 870 review | The High Road I was initially looking for a Benelli M2. I wanted a short, 24" barreled 20 ga semi-auto and had positive experiences with Benelli 12's in the past. But it seems they are unavailable, at...

    New RemArms 870 review

On January 4th I had a local gun shop order a new Benelli M2 20ga. I specifically wanted a 24" barrel because I wanted to use it for turkey hunting, but 26" wasn't out if a 24" couldn't be located. But no longer than 26". I left a $500 deposit and was told 4-8 weeks to get it in. I checked...

    Straight razors, Educate me.

Both of these were in my dad's stuff. He died 10 years ago and would have just turned 100 if still alive. I don't recall ever seeing him use these. I suspect they were my grandfathers. Maybe even my great grandfather who was 9 when the Civil war ended. I know nothing about them. Puma is a...

    My Remchester 8700

This started out as a pawnshop find a couple of years ago. A Winchester 1300, probably from the 80's or 90's. It was cheap and I decided to bring it home. I fired it a few times to ensure function and almost forgot about it in the back of the safe. I decided to take it squirrel hunting a...

    Christmas tradition fulfilled.

Ever since I was a kid my dad, my younger brother and I would spend at least one day around this time of year small game hunting. Squirrel, rabbit, and quail were all open and a mixed bag was possible. I can't recall ever getting all 3 in the same day, but 2 out of 3 occasionally. Part of...
