Very nice find!
The part I marked in red is where you described mine. Still wears the original .22 Short stamping and then someone (probably the same person that ran the reamer in there) hand stamped L.R. not far from it. Probably the same yahoo that drilled and tapped the side of the...
Been a bit of a non-issue for me, but then I've never experienced a pierced primer or ruptured cartridge case spitting stuff back through a rifle action, either.
I expect my outlook would be a bit different if that event were to ever happen.
So. I pulled one out of the safe and took a quick...
A friend back in my cowboy shooting days had one of the .357 Uberti ones that I looked at and shot a few times. Sweet little critter and made a casual offer to buy it, but surprisingly enough [/sarcasm] got turned down. Been on the lookout for another that's priced where I want it ever since...
Another commercially sporterized military rifle:
This started out as a Soviet SVT-40 that ended up in Finnish hands and was eventually sold to a company in Canada, where it was restocked, the gas system shortened and a different barrel in another caliber installed:
Probably not...
Where I hunt, a C&B revolver is specifically not considered a muzzleloader in the game regs. If I carried one along during the muzzleloader deer season, sure as the sun comes up in the East every morning, I'd run afoul of a game warden that'd want to ticket me for it. Especially if I'd just...
Which ones would those be?
The Vest Pocket .25? Yes, it's striker fired. The rest of Colt's early so-called "hammerless" models...not so much. A shrouded hammer is still a hammer.
Where I hunted, the main group included guys with:
1 Marlin .30-30
1 Remington pump action .30-06
1 Savage Model 99 .308
1 Savage bolt action .300 Win Mag
And I brought along a Winchester Model 88 .308 and a Marlin .444 that each got a deer.
The guy that uses a .257 Weatherby couldn't make it...
I've got one in .221 Fireball. Haven't used it for anything other'n seeing how small I can group with it at 100. Need to do something about that some day... just imagining a nice warm day spent varmint hunting makes a pretty picture compared to the weather outside at the moment.
I've got your gun's brother, except mine just has a plain blade front sight, no bead. The front sight elevation adjustment got mentioned in the OP. Just in case it got overlooked, the rear sight adjusts for windage via two small screws, one on each side of the fingergrooved portion of the latch...
I used to have a #2 RB that'd started life chambered in .32RF, but was converted to .32 S&W Long by the gunsmith I got it from. He'd drilled out the center of the block to a diameter that included the outer edge of the RF firing pin opening, threaded the hole and installed a bushing set up with...
Weird. I'll just attach a quick pic I took from a similar angle to one of yours, plus one of mine's model designation to illustrate why there's ongoing confusion over the model from folks just seeing your photos so far.
Just judging by the stock style and the checkering, would've figured the Remington bolt gun to be a Model 513-S, instead of a T (at least it sure looks like the stock on mine). Wonder if yours got a stock swap at some point or what?
That's nice to know. I'm blaming Traditions; they're the ones that throw "Napoleon" around in reference to it. Pretty much as bad as the abuse of "Hawken" in naming M/L rifle models, looks like.
Thanks for the color scheme tips, everybody. I've got to admit that I've been wondering if...
Ran into the chance to buy a reasonably priced .50 BP cannon the other day. A Traditions that's supposed to be representative of a Napoleon and it had been assembled as a showroom model, but no finish was applied to wood or metal. It's not remotely close to authentic, as even I can see a whole...
Need more info. They made more than one version, with open tops, top straps, loading gate, loading port, single action, double action, multi-barrel sets.... Shucks, they even made .32s on more than one frame size.
Dixie Gun works used to sell a repro made in Spain by Astra*. It was scaled down to .22 and had an all-metal gripframe (no separate grip panels) and was a true DAO pepperbox like the Allen & Thurber this thread is about. However, I've got no idea if DGW still has 'em for sale. I didn't bring...
Not a bit on mine, can't speak for anyone else. My comment about barrels and conversion units and such was just sour grapes, much like the guys that have complaints about NOT being able to count what's in all their spare high-cap magazines.
Oh, my count went up by another 7 the day before...
