Winchester small primer magnum versus standard load

I fired 200 rounds today with the magnum primers with no issues. But, I was using a light load and made sure to keep my seating towards teh max OAL to keep pressures down. Be careful with trying this with your .38 loads. I am not sure how the case pressures compare to 9mm loads.

I used a phillips screw driver to open up the tip on the feed tube and now works 100%. tNX!!

Winchester small primer magnum versus standard load

The max load with Accurate #5 is 7.0 grains, and the start load is 6.3 grains. I am loading at 6.5. Not quite 10% under max, but pretty close. I think I will drop the load a touch and try these to make sure there is no signs of over pressure before loading the rest of the 1000. Thanks for...

Winchester small primer magnum versus standard load

I re-read the box again and also checked several online retailers. The small pistol primers say for magnum loads and the retailers list separate small pistol primers for magnum or standard loads. However, my box of Winchester large pistol primers states it is for magnum or standard loads...

Winchester small primer magnum versus standard load

I am loading 115 gn 9mm at 6.5 grains of Accurate #5. The only small pistol primers I could find are Winchester Small Pistol for Magnum loads. No one in town has any small pistol for standard loads. Is there any problem using these primers in this standard load? Thanks, Rick

    Dillon RL550B primer feed issue

I double checked the primer feed tube alignment as tlen suggested. That seemed to improve things a little, but not a lot. I also set a heavy socket on top of the follower rod and that helped. The problem there is when the feed tube is full and a lot of the rod is out, it is flexible and bends...

    Dillon RL550B primer feed issue

I am having a problem with the primer feed on my RL550B. When I cycle the ram the cup is not picking up a primer. If I put some downward pressure on the follower rod it will pick up a primer. I tried adjusting the set screw that controls the outward travel of the primer, slide first out and...

Thank God for my Dillon 550B

I did the math several times and for me, I think reloading is definitely cost effective after about a few thousand rounds. Until that, it is a hobby that is costing me money, but far leass than my radio control hobby costs me!! Beyond that, reloading saves me money. But no matter what it...

.223 lube and shell holder questions

Without lube, how do you keep them from getting stuck in the sizing die when you run hem back through and cycle the ram for the other stations?

.223 lube and shell holder questions

I have some questions on reloading .223. I am using a Dillon 550B. I lubed the cases, de-primed and full length resized them, then trimmed them on my RCBS trimmer. Now I am ready to put them in the tumbler for a few hours to shine them up. But the tumbler media will remove the lube. Do I...

RCBS Trimmer pilot and cutter questions

I want to order an RCBS trimmer for .223 (right now that's the only rifle brass I'm going to load). I am thinking or of ordering the Trim Pro, either the one with no shellholders or pilots, or else the Trim Pro Kit that comes with 4 shellholders and 9 pilots. But here is where I run into...

Best reloading supply shop in Georgia

Southeastern Ammo and Components in Dawsonville. Their phone is (706) 265-8667. Good prices, extremely helpful and good supply. Keith Brookshire is the owner (former Marine). He's always at the National Arms Show down in Jonesboro as well. I buy powder, primers and bullets from him. He...

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

Easy Dillon Powder Measure swap To make moving the Dillon powder measure easy to swap from one toolhead/die to another, I replaced the allen screws in the measure's lock ring with knurled thumb screws from Home Depot. Now swapping the powder emsure when I do a caliber change is much faster...

Going from .223 Rem to 9mm

I'm fairly new to reloading myself, but I spent 6 weeks studying both the 550 and the LNL and what is needed for caliber changes. Some folks disagree, but in my opinion, for equal setups, the 550 is an cheaper/easier swap if you use a separate toolhead. The LNL offers some options, but the...

550 powder measure issue when there's no case

When I adjust my 550's powder/expander die to get about a 15 thousandths of a bell and then pull the handle all the way down with no case present in the second spot, the shellplate is hitting the powder funnel and causing the charge bar to move. It is moving the charge bar not quite half of...

.45 ACP load for SA XD 5" Barrel

I'm getting ready to load my first rounds tonight. The dies are all set and now I need the right charge. The manuals say starting load is 7.8 with a max of 8.7. But I have read that the starting loads won't cycle the slide though. Since the range is about 30 miles away, I am hoping someone...

How to adjust Dillon powder/expander die

I am trying to set my 550 up for the first time. The instructions say to adjust the die so that the bell is 'just enough to allow the bullet to sit on the case mouth" and to not shave any brass off when seating. But for a newbie, how much is that? Is there a good adjustment to start with...

    Newbie Primer Seating Question

I read the previous post about practicing and making inital adjustments using spent primers. And that got me to thinking...... I have read several manuals that talk about the proper primer seating depth, and all have appropriate warnings to NEVER de-prime a live primer. But none of them...

    bullet casting worth the work?

You may want to check out the Cast Boolits forum as well: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/index.php I'm just getting started reloading, but I've started stockpiling wheel weights and will make them into ingots until I'm ready to start casting. Good Luck!!

    Tumbler question

Here is the one that looks to have a solid top. There are a few dealers that have them anywhere up to $103. Not sure this is the least expensive site, but it shows the picture. Anyone have this model and can comment on the lid type or performance? Tnx
