All Smith N-frames are not created equal?

Yes there is. Smith and Wesson isn't going to have two heat treating procedures when one will do. They'll just heat the 45 the same way as the 44 and 41 at half the cost.

PSA: Stop yer dryfirin, specially dem rimfires!

I was brought up to a) never dryfire a weapon and b) never touch someone else's gun without asking. Old habits are hard to break. If I felt a need to dryfire, I'd probably use snap caps.

All Smith N-frames are not created equal?

That's almost funny that people believe that. The frames were mass produced and then picked at random depending upon which model they were tooling for. It's the same frame for the 29, 28, 27, 25, etc. Then they would stamp the model they were producing. All the frames were manufactured...

California Bullet Button is a drag! + Ergonomics Question

Not a "special tool." A loaded cartridge will do it. It's a loophole in the law which allows you to own and shoot a previously unregistered (if you registered your ARs back in 2000 you're still good to go) AR rifles. It's still got the mag release, but it requires a skinny pointy thing to...

    Breaking in a new Barrel

I used to worry about things like this. But Gale McMillan of McMillan barrels had some insight into the subject. http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/Barrel_BreakIn.asp Gale McMillan Senior Member posted September 25, 1999 10:10 AM...

Move to Libya to exercise 2nd amendment?

Yeah, and that free exercise of religion is a biggie, too. Plus, if you're a woman, you get the added bonus of no rights whatsoever. (Some threads just shouldn't be born.)

Private party value of this Ruger 41 mag ?

There's more to it than that. You need to know about condition of the bore, action, lock up, presence or not of rust, etc. I'd pay $300 for a gun in mint condition re the above. A rusty gun where the crown is damaged, for example, maybe much less.

Private party value of this Ruger 41 mag ?

It's a new model, but what condition is it in? How's the rifling? Bluing wear? Where are the original grips?

I messed up and purchased the wrong 442

I too read the thread on the Smith and Wesson forum. The thread was nothing but posts by people who actually had their IL Smiths lock up accidentally. They were first hand accounts. Many incidents were from firing magnum loads in ultra lightweight revolvers. Some were just from the weapon...

Is now a bad time to be selling guns?

They keep saying it's a buyer's market but I haven't found my NIB M1A Scout for $900 yet. I'm also looking for a mint Gibson ES 335 in Desert Burst for $1000. But I don't think spring headed for summer is a good time to sell. I think a good time to sell is when people are thinking about...

Rugers new .308 Scout rifle great but, is the socom16 the best concept??

You can't ignore the weight. After you install a scope, mounts, sling, full mag, etc, you're looking at toting a nearly 10 pound rifle all day. I went with a BLR instead. Six pounds with lightweight scope. It makes a difference.

This is probably a stupid Colt question, but......

It's already been pointed out that the Python was expensive to manufacture because of the meticulous lockwork that had to be handfitted. People were getting into semiautos and tupperware guns. Revolvers were generally becoming less popular with a gun buying public that was watching too much...

Condensation on guns coming in from the cold

Definitely do not leaves guns in their cases when you bring them in from the cold. The condensation stays inside the case. Take the guns out and after they've warmed up for a few hours, wipe them down with a dry cloth. Then when the metal is completely warmed and no visible moisture, wipe...

    Smith 28-2 - How'd I do?

You asked so I'll answer. If the gun has been shot as much as it (has obviously) beenn carried, and if the mechanics are anything like the cosmetics, it's not a good deal. But if it was merely carried by, say a cop, and the lockup, timing, etc, are good, then you did ok. It's impossible...

What about the Winchester 1885 falling block rifle?

So in the USRA days, the falling block Winchesters were being made by Mirokou, just like the Browning? Also, you're saying that some models were being made here (the models you mentioned), and the other models were being made in Japan? Finally, are they, in fact, the same rifle? (The 1885)
