Take a look at this review of the Stevens 350 with fiber optic ghost ring sights. I have one just like it and it's a very nice shotgun. Plenty of pictures in the review.

Make a spacer to fill the space between the 870 barrel ring lug and the end of the PP mag tube. It will need to fit snug around the mag tube and be the correct length so the mag cap will hold it down tight and the correct OD as well.
PVC, Aluminum and steel will work.

The Pardner Pump, Hawk 982 and the new Stevens 350 are all very well made Chiense shotguns for the money. The Stevens 350 Ithaca 37 style shotgun is the highest quality of the three. It's a step above and a heck of a deal.

You should clean the inside of your mag tube periodically. Give it a very light coat of oil.
If a galvanic reaction could happen it would take a "very" long time under extreme conditions.
The problem you will have if you leave shells under pressure in a mag tube for long periods is the...
I might would go with the Mossberg 590A1 18.5" over the Protector but not the 500 mainly because of sealed mag tube on the 500.
The 590 cost over twice as much though.
GC
The reason why I would choose the Protector.
Steel receiver
Parkerized finish
Clean-out mag tube. The mag tube on the 500 is sealed and you have to remove the whole mag tube from the receiver just to clean it out and change the spring
Protector easier to take down and clean
Cost less
870...
The follower in the SPX is a HQ steel follower. I wouldn't change it. There is nothing wrong with the Choate tube extension either. I would change the mag tube spring out for Wolff universal 12Ga spring cut to 28" and bend the cut ends down so they are level with the lower coil.
The SPX...
The mag tube on the 500 ends under barrel ring. It has a shorter overall length than the 590 which goes through the barrel ring.
590 has a clean-out mag tube and the 500 has sealed one.

My opinion.
870 older used
Mossberg 590A1 18.5" barrel
Hawk 982
Pardner Protector

Savage Stevens 350 ghost ring sights, very slick action - Ithaca 37 style shotgun - Very well made and the best deal out of the bunch.

The chamber problem goes back a few years before Ceberus took over. Remington was 200 million in debt when they were bought out. It hasn't gotten any better since Cerberus.

If I depended on doing working on them to make a living I would be dirt poor. They have a very low return rate, Very few ever have problems.
I bet you are blast to have beer with.

We are only talking about a rough and or under size chamber. Surely Remington can get that right without breaking the bank. They also take part in importing firearms from other countries.
Other than the chamber problems with some later Express shotguns the new 870 Express is a very good...
I am not the only one saying that some of the newer Express have problems with rough and or under size chambers.
You must have missed this in the OP.
Also do a quick google search on the problem and see how many post on the subject you come with. Type in: 870 jamming, 870 FTE, 870 FTF, 870...
If it's not a common problem what would the chances be that he would get two Remington barrels that have the same problem. No one is saying that this is a problem with "all" 870 barrels, so there is no need to post that your 870 barrel hasn't had a chamber problem.
GC
Most Remington 870 customers are very loyal and they don't want to admit this is a common problem; they blame it on the shells. This is part of the problem. As long customers keep turning a blind eye and no one complains to the right people at Remington it will remain the norm.
