    Cleaning Primer Pockets.Tools?

I've been using an RCBS Trim Mate Case Prep for the last 20 odd years to uniform and clean primer pockets as well as to do a variety of other case prep work. Works very well. I have all the hand stuff too from my start up days. What a chore that was. Back then though I was only loading 20-50...

Forster FLS die leaving shiny ring around bottom of case?

The photos don't really do justice to what I was seeing. Out of 103 pieces of brass, 25 of them had distinct rings or were developing rings above the webbing. The remaining 78 pieces did not and looked shiny new all the way to the base. Brass is cheap compared to the alternatives. As I...

building inside a closet to store our gun stuff??

I installed some cheap Home Depot cabinets and shelving, but like above, you'll want to account for the weight. I rested the bottom of the cabinets on 1 x 4s installed into the studs. I also reinforced the top mounting similarly. The shelving has several points of contact with studs and...

Forster FLS die leaving shiny ring around bottom of case?

These are some cases I culled over the weekend. They are 308 Winchester cases. I shot these through a DPMS AR platform that is fairly hard on brass. These have been shot 5 times. They started out in an original lot of 500 cases of which I have about 250 left that do not look like these...

Forster FLS die leaving shiny ring around bottom of case?

Are you sure that the ring is from the die. Are the cases new? If not, how many times have they been used? Does it make the same ring on new cases? Sorry for all the questions, but that's a fairly classic sign of case head separation.

What have you done in the reloading room today

I prepped some 308 brass today for further prep. I resized and deprimed the cases for later trimming. I started with 103 cases. I culled 25 of them because I saw a ring at the webbing. Not much, just a faint ring. A couple of cases had a distinct line. Might be time to retire this lot.

What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

My second was .22 NRA postal matches in 1968 at the college ROTC range. My very first ever was the toilet. Got an attaboy on that one. ;)

What do have waiting for you in the reloading room?

Picked up an old Lee Classic Turret Press at a swap meet today on the cheap. Getting it set up now and looking forward to putting it to good use.

    Hornady Head Space Comparater

I want all of reloads exactly the same as the ones before. All of my notes indicate how much I set back the case particularly if I'm full length resizing. In my experience set back does make a difference. It's a handy tool, and I use mine all the time.

    Measuring Primer Seating Depth

Here is another measuring tool. https://bullettipping.com/products/precision-primer-gauge/ It's not cheap, but seems less complicated than some of the others I found. I'm not sure primer seating depth will make that much of a difference for us mere mortals.

Over heard at a local gun range.

"Panic buying" is not the same as making sure you have what you need (want) when you need it. I bought quite a few large rifle primers long ago when they were available. I'll buy more when they become available. Those and large pistol primers is what I use the most, and I go through 200-300...

    Measuring Primer Seating Depth

I uniform primer pockets on my precision rifles, hunting rifles, and pretty much everything I don't load in bulk like 357, 45 Colt, and 38. In fact I'll trim, uniform, neck size, everything and etc (OCD) on those rounds to make them as accurate as possible. I load 9mm, 45 ACP, and 308 in bulk...

Do You Change Your Every Day Carry When Going On Lengthy Out of State Road Trips?

I always carry my Glock 30. But when I go on a road trip, I take my 357 Colt King Cobra. A while back I read an article about an off duty Atlanta cop who inadvertently walked into an armed robbery. He was convinced that he diffused the situation because he had the biggest gun there and they...

Over heard at a local gun range.

I started buying components years ago and stocked up when I could. Got caught in the shortages created by Obama in 2008 and 2012 and Hilliary in 2016. I stocked up each time. I try to have a little factory ammo for everything I shoot, but I mostly roll my own. The only item I can't seem to...

Half the servicos aventuras primers I have used fail

During one of the Obama shortages, large pistol primers were scarce (2012). I found and bought a bunch of actual Russian primers. Apparently, they are a bit larger than US primers in that they seat hard. It's a noticeable difference. When loading 45 ACPS on the Dillon, I need to put some...

    Lead Hazards

Wow. If it isn't one thing, it's another. I really don't want to give my doc something else to look for. But, I guess I should get a base line. My doc does complete blood work every 6 months. I just looked at the most recent round. Is the lab test labeled "lead" or some other name? For...

What do have waiting for you in the reloading room?

Finished loading my 9mm boxes (200). Because of you fine gentlemen, I added some Rooster Brite to my media to make my 308 cases nice and shiny. Also, I checked the powder weight registered by my Chargemaster with my beam scale. Same weight. Guess I'm still happy. I did, however, notice that...

    Is it really “OCD”??

I tumble large amounts of pistol and revolver brass at a time in walnut with something I've long since forgotten the name. That way I have enough so that I'm using clean, but not necessarily shiny brass, all the time. I do not clean the rifle brass every time. Every other time-maybe. Again...

    A good electronic powder dispenser/scale.

I've been using a Chargemaster since shortly after they came out. I've been happy with it-thought it was the bee's knees. I have a RCBS beam scale that I bought just in case we encounter "Zero Dark Armageddon". It's still in the box. Not once have I thought to check the charge thrown by the...
