    Most efficient chamberings?

We were just talking today of building a rifle around a box of free bullets. The rifle was a Mod 98 Mauser and the free box of bullets were .416 - 400gr. After a little research it looks like a .416-06 JDJ wouldn't present many problems and it should be able to be loaded to 2,200 fps without...

    Favorite odd ball caliber

.30 US (30-40 Krag) 5.6 X 50R (3mm longer case than the .222 Rem Mag) .30-338 Win Mag (Americas answer to the .308 Norma Mag.) .22 Rem Jet (The POS experiment with the Mod 53 S&W revolver)

Best Rifle/Caliber for North American Hunting?

Probably the best is something between .264 and .338 that shoots a modern smokless powder cartridge and most importantly, something you personally feel compent and comfortable with. Yes, you can load up and you can load down but start with something you can buy across the counter wherever you...

What is the ideal truck gun rifle caliber?

I just voted and was amazed to see that two of the worst .30 calibers (as far as velocity/tajectory) were tied at 39 votes each. 30-30 and 7.62X39 Wow!

Need help picking a shotgun for bird hunting

I personally don't like the Mossberg products and love the Remington 11-87. I would stay away from the 1100 as it is often very finicky about different loads (light vs heavy) while the 11-87 isn't. Most 11-87's have screw in chokes, most 1100's don't. I prefer blue steel and walnut stocks and...

Can someone tell me why Ruger will not make 10 rd mags for the Mini 14?

Now you know why I moved from California to Texas. I lived for 50 years in California and think that it is the most beautiful state in the Union but it costs more to live there and some of their laws are pretty hard to swallow. I own several guns that would not be permitted in California...

    First "Fun Gun"

A friend of mine just bought three VZ 58's which I believe are Czec AK 47's with milled receivers and a gas piston (rather than a stamped receiver and no piston). The manufacturer (remanufacturer) is Century Arms and the receivers look excellent! The rifles have a folding stock and plastic...

    Model 12 Pigeon??

Every Pidgeon grade I have ever seen has a pidgeon engraved on the bottom of the magazine tube connection. Wonder if the pidgeon grade or black diamond is more rare.

    What is this rifle worth?

    What is this rifle worth?

I just sold one that looks just like yours, I believe it was a 1967 SP1 and it had the Colt scope and the book that came with the rifle. It had never been shot. I sold it for $1,200. If I had had the original box, it would have been worth perhaps $1,500 or more.

Post pics of your "tactical" Mosin Nagant

Here are pictures of mine. Built as a spoof with a hack saw, drill press, torch and just some stuff ordered and around the house. Call me "Bubba". http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=369278&highlight=snipper

What's your favorite cheap military service rifle clone/replica of any kind?

Manlicker Carcano M1938 7.35mm or any French rifle. They saw very little service.

AR vs. AK vs. Mini 14

AK 74 in 5.45X39 because bullets are as cheap as 5.56 used to be and 74's are cheaper to buy than Mini 14's and AR15's.

Any dream calibers that don't exist?

Well, so much for the practical, how'bout necking down the .50 BMG to .30 cal and shooting 220 gr bullets at 4,000 fps? Or maybe necking the .378 Wby Mag down to .204 and shooting a 40 gr bullet at about 5,000 fps? I think that there is already someone necking the .50 BMG up to .700 or...

Question for Ruger No. 1 Shooters

I have had three (No. 1's) and still have one. The 22-250 was a tack driver, the 7mm Rem Mag was good for 1.5" at 100 yards. The 30-06 was rechambered to 30-338 Win Mag and was the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I have since rechambered it to .300 Win Mag because I don't like to...

    My 1st Carcano

First center fire rifle I ever owned was a 7.35 Carcano. I buffed and polished and reblued it and cut and refinished the stock in 1957. Bought the rifle for $6.95 and sold it for $7.50 in 1958. It shot pretty good but I couldn't afford too much ammunition when I was 14 years old.

    Spanish Mauser, Help

If he is a gun dealer/gun smith working out of his garage, I would imagine that every gun he has is his "personal' gun. Noting wrong with Mausers converted to 7.62 NATO. Sloppy bolts when they are locked up aren't good but when all the way back, who cares (within reason)?

SKS vs 44 mag lever action rifle

Now, if you could get a lever action made in a commie country in 7.62X69, you would have the best of both worlds.
