Photos of Shooters at the Arkansas Black Powder CAS Championship

Looks like lots of fun for all!

    Took a Canadian shooting today.

Yeah, he didn't know he could own a handgun, and may not be able to in Quebec, I think they're a bit stricter, not sure. Anyway, I told him about all the CAS clubs up there, and they all own handguns. Kinda surprised him.

    Took a Canadian shooting today.

He's an engineer, down here for a conveyor rebuild. He's never shot a handgun before. First gun is an Uberti Sheriff's model in .45 Colt, loaded with the good stuff. Then a Uberti in .357Mag, loaded with the boring stuff. Then me with the Sheriff's. He was the first to ever shoot this gun...

    Got a new Pietta '60

Here ya go Crawdad: Odd, I can get pictures of a dragonfly's eyelashes, but seems like guns are hard to photograph!

    Got a new Pietta '60

Either I got lucky or Pietta has learned to make the bolt a bit smaller so it will fit in the slots. Took it apart to file down the bolt, guess what, it doesn't need filing. Haven't shot it yet, something I have to remedy.

    Cylinder pins for Pietta SAA

I bought a Pietta SAA in .357 the other day. It doesn't have the same style cylinder pin as they used to. This one allows BP fouling to gum up the works. Very nearly locked up with 5 shots, 4 more and it was locked up with fouling. Y'll know of any aftermarket pins for the newer Piettas...

    Burned some powder today

Planning on it. A coworker and his son are really interested in CAS, I need to take them to a match or two also.

    Burned some powder today

Last week I purchased an Uberti SAA in .45Colt. Last night I broke it down, cleaned all the factory grease out of it, and took it out to the range today. Guess what? Uberti's don't disassemble like they used to. I wasn't aware of the plunger type hand spring, and unknowingly lost it. So...

    Just rambling.

I haven't posted anything here in a long time. Due to a lot of things I haven't pulled a trigger in a long time. But I surely do enjoy coming here every day and vicariously living the life. Y'all keep on shooting and posting. I'll smell the smoke.

Rawhide loop for Walker loading lever?

The rawhide string I used blocked the front sight. I never tried it with anything else. A couple of years ago there was a post on this website that said (paraphrased) "if you don't want the lever to fall, just remove it. It's only one screw." I tried that at a SASS match. Works wonderfully...

Got a call from Dixie Gun Works...

My brass one needs a .321 ball. You can seat .315's with your thumb.

What we all know about the round ball.

Ain't no such thing as knock down power, at least in handguns. A bullet can not hit any harder than the recoil hits you. You can hit someone with your fist much harder than a bullet hits. As far as the 22 inches penetration, I didn't say it was good, bad, or ugly. I just said I was surprised...

45 Colt T7 Load Very Stout!

Hodgdon does not recommend FFFg for cartridge, unless they've changed their tune recently. Like you, I did the same thing, only with .44-40. Hot stuff. I was smacking my 200 yard steel plate with authority for the first five rounds. Then the barrel started leading. Next five shots were...

What we all know about the round ball.

22+inches ain't bad penetration. I was surprised he got that much.

double barrel parker hale and green double 8 bores

This thread is useless without VIDEO! :) Seriously, nice guns ya got there.

    Are you like me?

Favorite gun is a tough one, since they are all favorites for one reason or another. I reckon I'd have to go with my '92 Rossi in .44-40 if I had to pick just one gun to keep. For me, it's the rifle equivalent of the '51 Navy. When it comes up to shooting position, the sights are already...

'60 Army Photography Meh. Just as soon have a hamburger or bologna sandwich as any of that fancy stuff.

    Filling emptying a powder flask?

For some reason I'm thinking those flasks are varnished. You may have to twist the top around and break the seal. Since we're not talking about smokeless powder here, I wouldn't worry to much about it anyway.

    Gunsmith Fanning Question: 1851 Navy

Replace the flat hand spring with a coil spring and put a hammer stop in to prevent over rotating the hammer. Replace the flat trigger/bolt spring with wire springs. Should be good to go. Just BE CAREFUL! PM Brushhippie and find out what all was done to the Dragoon that he fanned in one of...
