New Swiss K31 and reusing GP11 cases

Something I may have not mentioned and I haven't read through the entire posting again. When I use the Hornady comparator tool it will of itself add 1" to the overall measurement. So my actual bullet seating depth as measured from the base to the ogive is 2.250". This is the spec. I now use for...

Smith Corona 1903A3 Serial # Question

I know it might seem like a simple thing to remove the mount and look. In a perfect world that would be the case. Problem is the screws are slotted screws for a flat blade driver and the screws are lock-tited. And the rear screw head is already buggered a bit. So simply putting a flat blade...

Smith Corona 1903A3 Serial # Question

thanks Sunray. It confirms the number ranges I also checked. I googled photos of SC A3's and found also the last digit must be a "7" because the digit "1" has is crossed at the bottom. So only the 5th digit is in question now. Take a look at this photo. I think the 5th digit is a "6"

    Optimum barrel length for 30-06

Here's what I know. I have a Gruning Precision Remy 700 in 30.06 with a 27" Douglas barrel. With 190gr. Sierra MK on top of 60.5gr of Reloder 22 it will generate 2900 fps. easily. No signs of pressure, and just very slightly flattened primer. 200 gr. Sierra MK on top of 59.5gr. Reloder - 2800...

What was/is the most energetic infantryman's caliber?

"Anybody ever wondered why such powerful cartridges were used to kill people?" Back in those days when those cartridges were designed soldiers still rode horses into battle. They wanted a cartridge that would take down a charging horse at 350 yrds. to put the soldier on foot.

    Another Build or Buy question.

Here's one of my custom builds. It is not cheap (life is too short of cheap AR's) but it is totally reliable and totally accurate. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=533799658

What was/is the most energetic infantryman's caliber?

I think the parameter was for the standard issue infantryman ............... I see a lot of specs and numbers that don't exactly fit that bill. However, all the cartridges listed are way overkill for shooting people. Anybody ever wondered why such powerful cartridges were used to kill...
