    Loose Colt Barrel Link Pins

It should be a press-fit. There's actually a bench block made just for pressing in that pin. It should not just fall out.

New ID requirements for gun buys?

No, that won't fly. Maybe elsewhere, but not for you and me:

    Continuing Frustrations in Cold Bluing

If you don't want to try parkerizing, come visit and I'll show you how to rust blue. It's actually not as time consuming as it sounds, and I have a whole bunch of solution you can use. I think I went through a whole teaspoon of the stuff doing my Walker.

What Is Meant By "Polishing" Metal?

I don't claim to be an expert on CZs, but I do claim to be an expert at not fixing things that aren't broken... Don't polish your feed ramp unless you are attempting to fix an identified problem, and polishing that part is the known solution to the problem you experience. Hint: Polishing a...

    Jihadi ammo quality issues

Faulty ammo does that. Bad assembly allowing propellant gases to ignite the warhead, faulty safety allowing the round to arm in the tube (dunno if that mortar is so equipped, but self-arming warheads that go live after firing are common), or obstructions in the barrel. Poor QC, poor handling...

economically feasible to build a BHP???

Basically, no. You could buy a vanilla BHP and do some work to dress it up and accurize it. Brownell's is the best resource for finding parts if you go that route. It's a good way to go if you want to make a thoroughly customized pistol yourself, and you will likely spend less on a...

Scary incident at a stop light

Exactly what I was thinking. I tend to take people trying to force my car doors open more as carjackers, and less as overzealous bums looking for a ride. I maintain, shall we say, a "zero tolerance policy" for uninvited guests in my home or car.

    Need explanation of Straw Sales

Save your money. An extra three months of savings will get you some ammo, magazines, holsters, whatever. I know that's a looooooong three months (I remember well), but it's the legal way to go, even if it's a silly law.

    Nickelplating Question

Absolutely you can. You'll have to have the parking removed first, but it's doable. Not real sure about pricing, though.

What's the difference between "Sporterizing" and "Bubba-izing"?

If it involves duct tape, bubble gum, or bailing wire, it's bubba-ized. Anything involving proximity of less than 500' to a Dremel tool is also considered bubba-izing.

Everybody cross your fingers for me...

Nope, all in the white. And it did surprisingly well. A few thin spots, but everything at least took some kind of treatment. I'm up to a medium-gray now... only 10 more to go :)

Everybody cross your fingers for me...

I just painted the grip backstrap and frame of my Walker with rust bluing solution. The first go didn't... well, go. I did it when it was too cold. Evidently nitric acid and metal salts turn green when they freeze. I got patchy rust from it, right where the frozen patches had been, but...

Gunsmith Tool I Haven't Heard Of

Yup. Common tool. All caplock guns (that I've ever seen, anyway) need one for disassembly. Look here.

Pietta cylinder bore vs. bbl bore

Yeah, being able to push the ball in is a problem. That loading lever is nice and long because you need the leverage. A ball that pushes in with no effort is a safety hazard. Since .457 is getting into "pretty dang big" territory with a .44, I would think seriously about sending it back.

    Pin on muzzle brakes.

Depends. Which AK? The Romanian SAR-1s (at least) have a differen't barrel OD and require the fitting of a threaded adapter. That is, last time I checked. If somebody knows different, please enlighten me. And unless I miss my mark completely, that's an AK-74 style muzzlebrake. They're...

Pietta cylinder bore vs. bbl bore

You're going to have to experiment. Since you can't very well mike a round ball (well, you can try, and maybe succeed, but it's a pain), you'll have to go by the age-old "ring o' lead method." If you don't shave a ring when loading, the ball is too small. .457 ball into a .455 cylinder sounds...

What's wrong with a Single Action Army .45 for the bed stand?

There was a discussion a few weeks ago about whether or not a BP gun would work for SD. The general consensus was that a .44 caliber round ball at 1000fps was pretty convincing in 1847, and little has changed since then. If it goes boom and you can keep it on target, it'll do. It beats...

Replacing Slide on SA GI 1911??

I've seen prices from $30 to $70. It will depend on the finish, really. Doing it on a gun with an NP3 finish will be more expensive than something with a simple blue (although a gun with an NP3 finish should have it done already). The actual machining work is brain-dead simple (for a good...

    Need a good wrench

I've been looking for a good nipple wrench for my Walker, and I'm coming up empty-handed. I had occasion to handle a couple of the replica wrenches, and I'm quite unimpressed. I've found a few that are actually well made, but I'm given to understand that the Walker requires a specific wrench...
