    My Latest Acquisition: Astra A-70

I have to agree that the Astra 70 does look a lot like the Star Firestar. And if the Astra is built as well as the Star, it should be a nice shooter. I currently have a Firestar M43 9mm and Firestar M40 40 S&W. I wouldn't mind getting the First M45 45ACP to finish the collection.

.410 BBB buckshot for self/home defense

I have not tested any 410 BBB shells so can't comment. I have done quite a bit of testing with 00 and 000 buckshot 410 shells though. I have started a couple of threads in the shotgun section about my testing. I will make a few suggestions. Stick with 00 buckshot if your 410 barrel has a...

dimes in a double barrel shotgun

I have tested the Winchester PDX-1 410 shells out of my Mossberg Shockwave and Mossberg 500 with 18" cylinder bore barrel. I was not impressed with the effectiveness or patterns from the PDX-1 shells. As mentioned, flat disks do not pattern or penetrate well.

    6 ARC Rifle options

I assembled my upper and went with an Odin Works 18" barrel. I have been very pleased on how it shoots. I have only shot factory 105Gr and 108Gr ammo so far. Here are a couple of phots showing my final 5 shot groups with both. The final 5 shot groups are circled in yellow. The others are from...

Bayonet on rifle? Yes or No?

I still have a M7 bayonet from when I was in the Army. I ended up building a M16A2 clone to go with it. Oh the fond memories of bayonet training in Basic Training at Fort Leonardwood in 1989. 🤪 And we trained a little bit with bayonets mounted when training up for the Bosnian peace keeping...

GOA gets VA Veteran Gun Ban repealed.

I had my 6 month checkup with my primary care doctor at the local VA clinic yesterday. And Yes I was asked again by the nurse and doctor about my mental health, firearms and if I can manage my own finances. I was also asked again about toxic exposures too, I told them both that everything I was...

    The Colt 9mm Carbine - A Mini-Review

I think I am using a New Frontier buffer spacer, I would have to remove it from the rifle to double check. I know the New Frontier spacers are around $10 or less. Or one can always use quarters. The spacers are nice in that they fit into the bottom of the spring and stay in place. Or as...

    The Colt 9mm Carbine - A Mini-Review

I am still running the stock 5.5 ounce CMMG buffer and spring with a spacer and it runs fine. I haven't had any issues with that setup while running bulk 115Gr ammo and my 115Gr reloads. I will probably try to add a little weight to that buffer or buy one that weighs between 7.5 and 8.5 ounces...

    The Colt 9mm Carbine - A Mini-Review

I got to shoot numerous SMG's while in the Army. My top 4 in no particular order are the M3A1, MP5, Colt SMG, and Swedish K. I originally built my Colt SMG clone as a braced pistol using a CMMG dedicated lower, CMMG bolt and barrel, And a Fulton Army upper. I have since permanently installed a...

GOA gets VA Veteran Gun Ban repealed.

I get asked a lot of questions to include how I feel mentally and about firearms every time I go to the VA. The nurse or doctor will ask the questions verbally and type my answers into the computer. This has happened at every single appointment for many years now.

If I wanted to put a 9mm upper on a regular AR lower---

Colt and CMMG still use a 5.5 ounce buffer. 5.5 ounces is the minimum buffer weight. Most people run a 7.5 to 8.5 ounce buffer. I'm still running a 5.5 ounce buffer in my CMMG dedicated lower but am thinking about adding more weight to it. It is a personal choice when it comes to choosing what...

Shot my carry pistol at 50 and 100yds.

I don't shoot my EDC pistols very often at 50 yards and beyond. I shoot my 22lr pistols at 50 -100 yards on a regular basis. I do find it fun to blast call birds at farther distances.

    Chicago Sues Glock

This is one of the most frivolous lawsuits I have ever seen. And Chicago has been so bad that it has earned the nickname of Chiraq.

    Who scopes their .22s?

That's good to know that it worked for you. It was common practice years ago to remove the rear sight and they seemed to get misplaced.

    Who scopes their .22s?

The rear sights got removed to install scopes and then lost over the years. I have seen the rear sights go for $75 and up. I only gave $60 for the complete rifle.

    Who scopes their .22s?

The only 22lr rifle I own that is not scoped is my Marlin Model 99M1. And the reason it is not scopes is because it still has the factory rear sight on it. I don't want to loose the rear sight since they are hard to find and expensive.

GOA gets VA Veteran Gun Ban repealed.

Unfortunately this law was used to keep veterans from being able to pass the NICS check. It was automatic that the VA would file with NICS stating that a veteran was a prohibited person if they had been assigned a fiduciary. This is a well known fact. And for all my fellow veterans.

GOA gets VA Veteran Gun Ban repealed.

I'll back up what @d2wing said. I have seen it happen to fellow veterans for answering simple questions wrong when seeing any doctor at the VA. And you get asked those question every time you see a doctor. If it isn't a nurse that asks while taking your vitals, then it is the doctor asking.

.410 bolt action shotguns, what would you get and why?

I like my Mossberg 183KA with C-Lect choke.

    Rear bag suggestions?

I have used polyester weighted stuffing beads to fill bags. They work well for my purposes and are fairly inexpensive on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0077AQ0W8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
