Pattern Spread With A Cylinder Choke Shotgun?

At 33 yards (100 feet) you can expect a cylinder choke to throw a pattern of about 4 feet in diameter or perhaps slightly larger. It's unlikely you'll have a 33 yard shot inside your home. Try patterning the gun at about 20 feet distance and see what you think.

How to return hammer to down position

How about if you punch out the trigger pin and remove the trigger assembly? The hammer should have been in the cocked and locked position to begin with during disassembly and reassembly.

Noise Levels of 12 gr. Blanks

I've never used any factory made blanks in a shotgun, but I've shot numerous shotgun hulls which had only a primer in them with NO powder, wad, or shot. With the primer only, you get a loud POP noise, but it's nowhere near as loud as a regular shotgun shell. To get more noise, you would have...

cheap way to simulate buckshot and magnum recoil?

I suggest that you keep practicing with mild 2 3/4" target loads. They are much cheaper and not as likely to induce bad shooting habits like lifting your head off the stock and flinching due to heavy recoil. Believe me, I know LOTS of guy who develop bad habits due to recoil from shooting...

    Lanber shotguns?

I just read a writeup in the August Sporting Clays magazine about the Lanber 2097 Sporting Lux written by Nick Sisley. The writeup sounded pretty good. Now before anyone jumps in and says that ALL writeups in gun magazines sound good, let me say that I'm perfectly aware of that. However, if...

    Remington 1100 malfunction

Actually, it's quite easy to remove and/or replace the firing pin in an 1100 Remington. First, remove the bolt assembly from the gun. Then punch out the firing pin retaining pin which is located near the rear of the bolt. Then the firing pin and spring just slide out.

How do you check an semi auto shotgun to feed reliably?

Buy several boxes of birdshot such as the 4-paks (100 shells) from WalMart. Be sure to get the 1 1/8 ounce loads, either size 7.5 or 8 shot, with the 3 Dram Equivalence. Run these 4 boxes of shells through the gun in any manner you like.... fast, slow, etc. If the gun functions without a...

    upgrade?

If you like the 1200 (and there is no reason you shouldn't), then just buy the extra 2 barrels for it.

A compatibility issue with wife and new shotgun

Ben, SOME pump shotguns are designed to require a slight forward nudge on the forend before the action will unlock. I don't know if the H&R Pardner is designed this way or not. One way to find out is to be sure the gun is completely unloaded, rack the slide to cock the hammer. Then with...

    HD Shotgun at the range

That has not been my experience. Of course, I've been to only a small fraction of all the shotgun clubs in the country so I can't say whether my experience is typical of "most" or not. What I can say is that I have taken short barreled shotguns and have seen others take and use short...

Cylinder vs Improved Cylinder vs Modified

That's because you (and many others) apparently think that a Foster slug is sized to just fit inside the bore. The reality is that the Foster slugs are sized to be smaller in diameter than even a full choke. It is only because of the felt wad on the base of the Foster slug that the slug is...

Cylinder vs Improved Cylinder vs Modified

None whatsoever. It may give a different pattern/grouping than the other barrels/chokes, but there is no harm whatsoever in using rifled slugs in a Mod choke....... or even a Full choke.

Pros and Cons of NRA membership

If you value your Second Amendment rights and you are not an NRA member, then you are a freeloader who is riding on the backs (and pocketbooks) of those members who are paying your way. Don't be a freeloader. The NRA has done FAR, FAR more for your 2A rights than you can ever imagine...

    Smithing a cheap Double barrel

Dave, It's the same old "tight pattern vs open pattern" disagreement and I'm sure that at the end of our discussion each of us will still feel the same way we did at the beginning. If there were some way of guaranteeing that the 8" pattern were in fact going to be exactly where I wanted to...

    Smithing a cheap Double barrel

Sounds good to me! Try shooting at a large piece of paper or cardboard at 12 yards with a load of 00 Buck or #1 Buck and see what it looks like to you. Besides, how many places in your house would it even be possible to take a shot longer than 12 yards (36 feet)? As far as I'm concerned...

Best Clay O/U for under $1500.00??

Is this the Ruger you bought a little over 1 year ago and that has a top barrel that shoots 6" to the right at 15 yards? BTW, my recommendation has nothing to do with impressing anyone. Rather, it's based on MANY years of clay target shooting with numerous guns of my own PLUS the accumulated...

    Smithing a cheap Double barrel

Laser, Straight cylinder patterns will give a pattern that is approximately 1.5" in diameter for every YARD of distance from the muzzle. This is for small birdshot such as size 7 1/2 to 9. Larger sized shot, particularly buckshot, may give tighter patterns.

    Franchi 12g

As Earl said, it's probably an AL-48........ an EXCELLENT lightweight gun for upland hunting. I've got one in 20 gauge. BTW, it's NOT operator error that you can't cycle the live shells through the chamber manually. The gun was designed that way. To unload the gun, remove the shell from...
