+1 on the Ruger 357/9mm Convertable. I have the 4 5/8" model. It's the only single action I have. I have 3 GP100's and a Glock 19. I do not reload, so for me the convertable was the best choice.
I have 2 GP 100's and a Blackhawk all 357 magnum. I wanted only one 44 magnum revolver to round my needs. I picked the Alaskan because my primary outdoor activity is hiking. I do not hunt. The Alaskan handles all loads of 44 magnum ( I do not handload). It's short barrel is a preference...
I only use my GP 100 for outdoor use. I like a retention strap on my holsters when hiking. I use the Galco DAO model.

I have 3 GP 100's. One is a 38 caliber blued fixed sight model which I use for home duty. The others are both fixed sight and stainless. 3 and 4 inch barrels which I use for hiking.
Try to shoot both models and see what is more comfortable for you. I tried firing the G27 but for me I felt uncomfortable with that model. I tried a G23 and for me it worked out great. I do not reload at all so my G19 gets more use than my 23.
