    Win. 94ae 45 colt - Deer Load

I like heavy bullets, BUT, I have grand kids {Girls} that use my 92s. I now load Barnes 225s at around 1200 fps. These run at about 2 to 3" at 100 yards. 1" at 50 yards. That Barnes bullet has never failed me yet. It is amazing what it does to a deer. Recoil is light. The heavy bullets would hit...

    Runout after bullet seating?

I would put that expander ball back in and try it. It should help keep things centered better.

    357 rifle load

The history of the 1894 is at times rather confusing. Dates bounce around and places do also. But, that "tang safety" sort of gives it away. Many called it the Lawyer safety. It was installed to allow for international shipping. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_1894 Who knows...

Neck tension, expander ball or Not?

When you get time check different brass to see if the mic out the same way. Mil spec brass is thicker and will give a different set of numbers sometimes. But as a rule they should mic out the same after sizing. .004" is likely good. If you cannot push the bullet back by hand it has case...

    357 rifle load

+1 for rg1. I also use AA#9. Works.... The 1892 rifles are considered the strongest actions. Marlins and Winchester 94s run just behind the 92s. The 92s can be a tad on the crazy side with what they can handle. AA#9 @ 12.0 gave us an average of 1498 fps. from an 18" barreled bolt action...

Neck tension, expander ball or Not?

The expander ball makes the brass round again. Brass can get bent out of shape pretty easy. It would depend on how many times the case has been re-loaded as to just what that case may need. Proper annealing can bring back case life and give more loads. It also puts the spring back into that...

    Brass Shining Made Easy!

The Ultra Sonic cleaners really work nice, but most of use do not have one. We use what we have. As I said there are at the very least hundreds of ways to clean brass. I may invest in a sonic cleaner but would likely not use it for just cleaning brass. I do way too many things to let one sit...

    Back in the saddle again...

10/22s are cool. We have several. Check out the little Thomson center single shots too. Easy and accurate. Kids can have a hard time pulling that bolt back sometimes. I have a Chip monk and it has survived many kids. But, the bolt was hard for them to pull back. A leather string around the bolt...

    Back in the saddle again...

It wont be long and you will be buying more guns. Keep that in mind. A fund set up for that will come in handy later. I have 8 grand kids that are keeping me broke. I have sold off some pretty high dollar safe queens to get little .22s and some light shotguns. What used to be fine on single...

    Brass Shining Made Easy!

Wow! That sounds like a lot of work. And Time. But then I did say there are many ways to do this. I still use the Vinegar, salt and a few drops of dish soap. With Hot water in a clear bottle I can see what they look like and when they are done enough. This all takes about 15 minutes at the...

    Brass Shining Made Easy!

There are hundreds of ways. I use the Vinegar with hot water salt and then baking soda to kill any ugly that happens later. After they dry I tumble with corn cob. I buy the cob in bags of 50 lbs for about $26.00. That last a long time and cleans a lot of brass. I never used to worry about...

Just caught what could have been an unpleasant surprise

Since the small primer .45 acp cases started showing up I learned to look at each one before it goes in the press. Stupid happens when trying to get a large primer in a small hole. I get a lot of once fired indoor range brass. Those small primer .45s just seem to keep showing up. It has now...

    AA3100 Equal ?

Ok, I do see that the 4350 seems to be pretty popular. I may try that.

    AA3100 Equal ?

Thanks, I saw that also. I have used 3100 for a long time. 1/2" groups from both rifles and really do not wish to start all over again.

    Help with a RCBS 3-die .44mag set

You heard right. That set was not carbide. I have plenty of old dies sets just like that one. My old .45 Colt set is just as you describe. I finally bough the new carbide set and am happy.

    AA3100 Equal ?

Ok, I am running out of the AA3100 that I had so much of. I know they no longer sell this powder. I have always used this for the .270 Win and the .300 Win Mag. According to their website they are not yet saying what powder would replace the AA3100. I mostly want an accurate load rather than a...

    Sooty cases

Mine always did this. I think Bart and Murf are both correct. Both things happen. Little PSI is at the case neck. They may well get pushed out some but would spring back exactly when that bullet was released. That would allow soot on the neck. But, Bart is correct about where the PSI is mostly...

    Lyman deprime/sizing die undersizing?

My fired .38/.357s come out of the chamber at .378". After sizing with my RCBS dies they are .371" and once loaded with my cast bullets of {.358"} the case then is .378" to .380" where the bullets sits. Yes you can at times see a bulge. It is pretty common. Nothing wrong with the dies.

RCBS Case Neck Turner on Lyman Case Trimmer?

If it fits it should work. Never tried.

    .357 Magnum with lead

I see some here get it. Testing powder and lubes are part of the game. What works in one gun does not always work in the next. I too learned years ago when shooting IPSC that fast burning powders caused less leading with cast bullets. Seemed we always had plenty of powder nuts that used...
