Phoenix Police know if you have a CCW?

In CO, the statewide data base has recently be discontinued. When shall-issue was originally drafted, it was not legal for law enforcement to bump the CCW database, unless with probable cause. That has not changed. Several counties did so on a regular basis, until confronted about it. In my...

When you've held your tongue for just long enough....

Several years ago, about 3 months after the church shooting in Colorado Springs, I was at the Walmart just down the road from that church. I bought several boxes of 12 ga slugs, and 2 boxes of Federal bulk 22LR. The clerk asked if the 22 was for rifle or handgun. I told him it was for my...

    Alzheimer's & Firearms

My FIL is currently in a Alzheimers home. Unfortunately, my MIL and SIL are both liberal anti-gunners. They turned his guns over to the police to be distroyed, including his match 22. He shared his stories about that gun with my son and myself several years ago. It is a shame to lose that...

Share your family heirloom and its story

About 6 months before he passed, my Grandfather passed along an octagon barreled Savage 1903 22 pump action with a box magazine. He said the rifle was given to his Mother when she homesteaded in South Dakota in 1905. The barrel is rough, and the stock has a crack that has been repaired, but...

    Progressive press questions

I have 2 Hornady progressives, 1 LNL, and an older Projector. I am in the process of converting the Projector priming system over to the newer LNL system. I chose to go with the Hornady because of the cost of conversions. About $30 for the Hornady vs. $45 or so for the Dillon. I also get a...

    Dies, Dies, and more Dies

I have migrated to Dillon for almost all of my hand gun caliber die sets. I find they tend to keep the bullet straighter, and support the case wall better durinng seating, eliminating case bulge. I have both RCBS and Redding bottle neck dies, and prefer the Redding. They just seem to run a...

What type of press do you do more reloading on?

I have 2 Hornady LNL for reloading, and a Rock Crusher for the resizing chores for my semi-autos. I also use the single stage for hand loading for accuracy. I think it gives tighter control for better accuracy.

    Clean before or after sizing

Rifle brass I tumble, resize, trim and tumble again to remove sizing lube. I hand prime all of my rifle brass, as much of what U use is mil. I use 10/14 grit corn cob that I purchase from a local sand blasting supply house. Runs about $20/50#, and use Nufinish when I polish after loading...

    shooting in colorado?

There are several areas south of Buffalo Creek, the one you mentioned among them. It is short, maybe 40-50 yards max. It gets real busy on the weekends. Another short range is a couple of hundred yards south, on the right side of the road, and back about 100 yards. Not enough room for too...

Would you load this brass or pitch it.

Semi-auto's tend to be hard on brass that way. My FAL will dent the case mouth consistantly if I have the gas turned up a little too much. Ar's sometimes crease the case below the shoulder. Looks like a little smile on the case wall.

    shooting in colorado?

KsThumper, Thanks for the link to the hit piece on "illegeal shooting". I know those areas well, have shot there numerous times in the past. The only illegeal thing being done is shooting the trees. I agree that's a bad deal. But, the shooters I have seen over the last half-dozen years or...

    shooting in colorado?

The local forest rangers tend to have an attitude towards recreational shooting. The exception is some of the guys at Idaho Springs. South Platte on US285 is a bunch of left over hippies, and have tried to restrict rec shooting in the past. Boulder ranger district is even worse. CSSA and NRA...

    Carbide Dies

I have Dillon carbide for both 223 and 308. The force required with the carbide dies is much lower than standard dies. When using a progressive press, I seem to get less flexing on the drive plate with the carbides. I do use lanolin/isopropal lube, sprayed on sparingly so as to not...

    Military crimp cleaning options?

I purchased the Dillon several years ago, but my daughter, then 10 years old, decided that she wanted to help daddy, so she became the master with it. I ocassionally have to reset the depth, when the primer hole has extra flash on the inside, not allowing the center punch to sit as deeply in...

    10mm reloading opinions needed.

I have used 800x, Blue Dot and Power Pistol in 10mm, and am stuck between Blue Dot (more consistant load) and PP(easier metering on progressive). 800x is good for high-end loads, but a pain to meter out consistantly. I stay with Blue Dot for almost everything I load.

    loading rifle cartridges

An easy way to check for crimp is to place the bullet tip against a piece of wood(I use my loading bench front), and smack the base of the case firmly with the butt of my palm. If the bullet sets back, I apply a crimp. I do crimp my 308 for my FAL. I run seperate operations for seating the...

    cases keep getting stuck

I have been using a mixture of pure lanolin and 100% acetone for lube. I haven't had a stuck case since switching, even korean 30-06. I mix the componets at a 5:1 ratio, mix well and spray. Dillon sells the same stuff for a whole lot more. One 12oz bottle will treat several thousand 308 cases.

    Scary brass

I recently picked up about 50 45acp up out of the grass. Of those 50, 7 had high primers, 4 were missing primers, 12 had primers jammed in sideways, and 1 had the bullet in backwards. Some things defy explaination.
