    S&W 686/no dash w/4" barrel for S&W 686-5 plus w/2.5" barrel?

It depends on what you will use it for. For a range, field and home defense gun the 4" is best. If you throw CCW into the mix the 2.5" might be better. They can both do all those things but neither is perfect for all. I have both a 4" and a 2.5" and would keep the 4" over the 2.5" if I had to...

1911 Commander -- the new range length?

Commander length 1911s are great. Of the 8 1911s I have the 4" bobtailed Kimber Pro Carry is my most accurate. It's an alloy frame but still fun to shoot. I would go with a steel frame for a first 1911 though.

    1911 -Carry "cocked & locked"?

+1 on no thumbstrap. A well designed open top holster will not allow the safety to go to the fire position. A poorly designed thumbstarp holster will put the safety in the fire position if the gun shifts. Many thumbstrap holsters are designed to carry with hammer down on an empty chamber. I...

    picked up a Ultra carryII

I have an Ultra II and it's a fantastic pistol. I have around 2K rounds through it including different hollow points and it just keeps going. It's also very accurate for it's size. I have also carried pretty often and the finish is holding up very well. You will not regret your purchase.

Which handgun is most prone to Accidental/Negligent discharge?

I have always thought that a 1911 was safe to carry condition 1 but was convinced that it is a safe gun to carry about two weeks ago. I unholstered my Kimber Ultra Carry II from a Cross Breed holster after carrying it for around 11 hours. It turns out the thumb safety was off the whole time. I...

    inexpensive 357 mag or 9mm?

You might get lucky and find a decent S&W model 10 or some older S&W revolver in your price range. They are .38 Special but most will handle +p with no problem. Don't worry about holster wear on the finish as long as it's in good mechanical condition. They can be very accurate and are solid...

    S&w 5906?

I have a 5903 which is the aluminum frame version of the 5906 and it's a fantastic pistol. It saves a few ounces over the all steel version and makes a great truck gun. It's too big for me to carry but the little 908 serves that roll well.

why would anyone collect M1 30 caliber carbines?

I was one of the lucky people who picked one up from CMP when they were available last time. I got a Service Grade IBM and love it. I don't shoot it often but when I do it's a bunch of fun and always attracts attention at the range. It's like a 10/22 on steroids. It may not have been a perfect...

    M1 garand question.

If you have a CPL that will cover your shooting requirement. If you don't have one it's almost easier to get than the CMP Garand. CMP is the way to go. My service grade Springfield is in almost new condition and shoots great.

What Holster for 3" 1911 with Crimson Lasergrips?

The laser is above the kydex and is not an issue. Just put a note with your order and they will make sure it clears. That's the nice thing about a custom maker, they will do little things like that. I didn't specify and mine works great with the laser.

What Holster for 3" 1911 with Crimson Lasergrips?

I got a Cross Breed Super Tuck for my Kimber Crimson Pro Carry and it's the best holster I have ever had. It's comfortable and hides the gun very well under about any cover garment. It works for all barrel lengths too.

    M1 Carbine

In ten years we will be saying the same thing about the CMP Carbines and Garands we have bought in the last few years. I picked up an IBM Carbine and Springfield Garand from the CMP and they are both great shooters, and look good doing it.

    Restore Old Cannon Ball

I read an article several years ago about the restoration of the USS Constellation in Baltamore Harbor. They found the hold full of hundreds of cannon balls used as ballast. They hauled them off and sold them as scrap. They could have sold them to help pay for the restoration. I would have given...

    Palmetto State Armory

I just finished building a carbine using a PSA stripped lower, PSA stripped upper, PSA LPK, PSA bolt and carrier, Magpul furniture and other small parts. The quality of the parts looks to be very good and they built into a nice rifle that shoots great. The service might be just a tad slow but...

    Sears brass?

I have the rifle that goes with those shells. A Ted Williams 1894 Winchester that was built around 1976. I have a box of Bicentenial "76" headstamped ammo to go with it. The rifle is a great shooter too.

before i take my m1 carbine to the range...extractor???

You need a new extractor. You should probably also get the Carbine bolt tool. It makes it much easier to take the bolt apart.

    kimber pro crimson carry 2

I have a Kimber Pro Crimson Carry and really like it. It's very accurate and reliable. I had a couple of feeding issues very early on but they went away after I got some Wilson magazines. I have probably 1200 trouble free rounds through it. It gets carried about 75% of the time in a Cross Breed...

Do you care if you "print"?

I use to worry about it when I was new to CC. I could care less now. I sometimes carry a Commander size 1911 with a full length grip IWB under a tee shirt. It's pretty easy FOR ME to see the corner of the grip. The sheep don't notice a thing. We have a few people in town who OC. They get very...
