    BATFE Straw Sales: Outrageous

John, I am not meaning to single you out, you just put the issue to a short point. Yes, law enforcement has long used controlled illegal activity to entrap criminals. I think the real problem with this particular operation is a bit different than a cop selling bags of dope to arrest an...

Anyone know why the original NFA was passed?

For the same reason they pass so many of our useless laws, it is easier to regulate those willing to abide by the law. That act has still not stopped criminals, who by definition do not abide by law, from using automatic weapons in crime.

Do you let others handle, or shoot your firearms?

I let others shoot some of my weapons. I do not let complete strangers shoot my weapons. If you do not want the risk of damage by another person don't let them shoot you weapons. If you are not ready to take the responsibility for another person's weapon, don't handle the weapon.

When do we use the 2nd Amendment

And herein lies the ultimate root of tyranny, to make the citizens feel they have no privilege without it being enumerated by the government. Our Constitution DOES NOT enumerate what the citizen can do, it restricts what the government is allowed to do. Remember way back to history class. The...

    Can you ID this cartridge?

berettashotgun- I am quite familiar with operating calipers. They do require calibrations, they are not simply zeroed and then accurate over the entire range of the tool. For most gun work one doesn't need an extremely accurate measurement, in fact many tolerances are quite large on...

    Can you ID this cartridge?

As for the caliper accuracy, I have only been able to check it against a set of feeler gauges from NAPA and it reads dead on what the gauge is labeled. I too think it is a European version of the .25ACP. That is the only SAMMI/ANSI cartridge spec, that I have found, that is within tolerance...

    Can you ID this cartridge?

    Can you ID this cartridge?

I am working on the pics two don't work for some reason, this forum seems to have issues with photos. It is the only one I have problems with. I have a photo of the head stamp and a side view. .....and no it isn't .25 auto. Head stamp says 6.35.

This is a drawing I made from my measurments. A close up of the head stamp. A side view with ruler . A friend brought this to me and asked what it was.

    Milk jug Ballistics query

All the jugs I have shot come apart! .270 Win, .223 Rem, .357 Mag. With the 270 I usually can't find an indication of an exit hole. I assume the jug is too busy getting out of the way and isn't there when the bullet leaves or the bullet just comes apart and doesn't leave a hole? The 22lr puts...

    Virginian Dragoon Spring

It is the U shaped flat spring similar to the one in a SAA, looking at the schematics on Brownell's, it looks much like the Uberti, I may just order one for the SAA and one for the Uberti and see which is closest to the original. Kyle I am N. of Vandalia on US 51. You must be near...

    Remington 11-87 Premier Stock Removal

You might try tapping the screwdriver while pressure is exerted on the "screw". It is really more like a cap. Gentle taps from a light hammer, I like to use an old hammer handle. Just make certain the driver fits the slot or you will end up with a buggered screw slot.

    Why the Brass Hammer?

The brass is used for the reasons stated above. I believe it is also used to help with one other issue. After a punch has been struck over and over, the end of the punch will mushroom and small pieces can fly off. I use a small ball peen hammer (4oz.) on my punches, I just pretty much tap...

    My new Tool.

Ah, it looked like a finished stock! I didn't think anyone that does such fine work would dare mar the outside of the stock. I enjoy the tech stuff, I used to setup and operate CNC machines for a major auto parts manufacturer. If you have driven a F-150 around the 94-97 vintage, you may have...

    My new Tool.

LongRifles, I do admire your work, that is no doubt some of the finest if not the finest bedding I have seen. I almost fell over when I saw the stock being held with metal jaws against the wood. Please tell me there is something on the vise jaws I can't see in the photo.:what:

Cutting a shotgun barrel with a vent rib

If you want a good finished look to the barrel, run it on a buffing wheel. Run the crown against a wheel so that the wheel is turning toward the barrell. With a bit of compound on the wheel(loose wheel) it will give the barrel a slightly rounded over finish. Gives a bit more professional look...

    Flame bluing question

Careful with the heat, you don't want to anneal anything that is supposed to be a certain strength. If you put enough heat on the barrel or receiver to color it, it will likely be ruined. Perhaps PAINFULLY so.

Word of Warning to DIY 'smiths

The story is from October 5, 2009, I guess you just found it? <rant> Anyway, first, I like the same use of wording that the liberals use with SUV's killing people, now it is "guns are killing people", I am sure some anti is jumping for joy that a gun finally came out and killed it's...

    The Ultimate Cleaning Thread

How Clean I have firearms that are likely cleaner than the plates you eat from. Then I have those that look like the inside of a chimney but shoot accurately and function. Yes, when not done properly cleaning can harm a firearm. Most guns, when used occasionally, don't need stripped and...
