Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

Looking for info on the following revolver: -S&W M&P Long Action -2" thin barrel (approx., not actually measured), pinned -Half-moon front sight, fixed rear -6 shots, original nickel finish -Square butt -Generic hard rubber checkered grips -"Made in USA" is the only marking on rt. side...

How versatile is a 28 ga. auto?

I've been thinking of picking up a 28 gauge auto lately. I have a Beretta AL391 in 12 ga. and love it, but for some people I've introduced to shooting, it's been a bit much (even with 1 oz loads). I'm looking for a low recoil gun that's also light weight. Primary use would be skeet and...

Forming .300 Win Mag brass from 7mm Mag

To those who asked about trading brass--I appreciate the offers but I think I have found someone locally who wants to swap with me.

Anyone else enjoy heavy recoil sometimes?

It varies. I have a blast shooting full loads in calibers like .44 Magnum through a 10" barreled Ruger single-action, or .41 Magnum loads in a S&W 57. Mosin Nagants are fun to shoot too. I do NOT enjoy the recoil that comes from shooting hard-kicking calibers in light-for-caliber guns...

Does a gun take 600 rounds to break in?

Didn't read the replies in this thread, so this may have already been stated... It's been my experience that if a gun doesn't work reliably out of the box, it won't do so after any magic number of rounds have been fired through it, either. I've had that experience with Kel-Tec and a few...

Why is the sig p250 so inexpensive?

The difference is that the Sigma was designed to be extremely cheap and actually has an OK trigger if it wasn't so hard of a pull (which can be fixed pretty easily). I've fired both the Sigma and P250, as well as other Sigs and S&W autos. The P250 has a very smooth pull, but it is longer...

Opinions and experience with S&W 632 Carry Comp?

Ammo may be hard to find, but it should be an easy round to load for. If you buy 50 .327 rounds, shoot them, and then reload them to .32 S&W Long specs for practice, the brass should last practically forever.

    .357 Mag options

Thanks for all the replies so far. I really appreciate the input. I went to the store today and handled a 6" GP-100 they had in the case. It's been a while since I've seen one in person. The first thing that struck me was the Hogue monogrips. I'd always liked the old style rubber Ruger...

Price increases soon (?): buy more ammo or powder?

Regardless of the reason, it is always better to buy powder in larger quantities (as long as it is something you'll need and use). It's cheaper and more consistant--every load came from the same lot #. Plus, if you buy it online you have to pay a hazmat fee regardless of whether you order 1...

Forming .300 Win Mag brass from 7mm Mag

Ran a case through, it came out 2.496''. I wonder if running a couple loads through it would stretch it out enough to use as a .300 WM case, but due to the issues mentioned (deposits, erosion), I don't think I want to risk it.

    North vs South Carolina

South Carolina has a tax free weekend on gun sales every year. North Carolina has Bev Perdue. Take a wild guess as to which is more gun friendly.

Forming .300 Win Mag brass from 7mm Mag

I have a .300 Win Mag rifle and a lot of 7mm brass that I've picked up from the range...some of it consists of complete boxes of empty cases people stuck back in the original box and threw in the trash! Don't have a lot of .300 Win Mag brass, and even though it is easy to find, it's not cheap...

Just looked at the Taurus website, new stuff

You pretty much summarized my thoughts about Taurus and Kel Tec right there. Great little innovative companies whose products never failed to disappoint me. IMO they exist to fill a niche, which is providing guns for people who don't shoot often and can't afford anything better, and putting...

    Professional soldier forbidden full auto.

You sign away virtually all of your rights when you join the military. Why is it surprising that someone in the military, who already has fewer rights than civilians, would not be able to own an item that is already not available (without restriction) to civilians?

    .357 Mag options

Dan Wesson is certainly a contender but they're kind of hard to come by around here. I think I've only seen one at the range and the owner said he wasn't parting with it any time soon. How do you like your 686 7-shot? It's my understanding that being a 7-shooter, the cylinder indexes on the...

What is wrong with a bayonet lug?

It seems bayonets would tend to increase muzzle awareness and reduce "sweeping," so they might actually have practical applications to non-military use after all.

45 Long Colt vs 44 mag

Well, not quite. I'm sure it can get a bit confusing. The simple answer is that your Blackhawk can safely shoot any factory .45 Colt factory ammo, is suitable for deer season, and if (and only if) handloaded will exceed the .44 Magnum. Read on for more :) Basically, Ruger is known for...

    .357 Mag options

I'm looking for a larger .357 to shoot max loads through. Here are the main uses, both what I already do and would like to be able to do: -Silhouette shooting matches -IDPA/USPSA -Steel Challenge -Sidearm when hunting; for defense against hogs and coyotes or to take a close shot on...

45 Long Colt vs 44 mag

The .45 LC was originally a black powder cartridge. With original loadings, its ballistics are nowhere near the .44 Magnum. Modern DA revolvers can handle higher pressures than the old SAA Colts for which the .45 round was designed. These guns can safely shoot .45 LC +P ammo, which offers...
