Are These Old .44 Mag Dies Still Good To Go?

I recently acquired all of my Dad's old reloading equipment. I would really like to start to loading my own .44 Magnum and these are his old dies. I'm 38 years old and I can remember us shooting loads from these dies when I was about 8 so they are at least 30 years old. There is no visible...

Need Help With .44 Mag Elk Hunting Load

Can someone please offer some suggestions for for a good elk and black bear .44 magnum load? I'm planning to take my Ruger Redhawk elk hunting with me this year. Where we're going, it's a combination of long shots in between large areas of thick, dense forest. Based on past experience, it's...

Illegal/Incriminating to defend ones self with a single action firearm?

Exactly. His pistols do. Not gonna happen. The 1911 has been regularly carried in "Condition One" by professionals and amateurs alike for at least 60 years...depending on which historian you listen to. Holsters and training methodology address the carrying condition of 1911's...and the OP's...

Illegal/Incriminating to defend ones self with a single action firearm?

I wouldn't put it past a DA, plaintiff's attorney, the media, or a jury which did not have anyone on it who was knowledgeable about firearms. Though it's apples to oranges, see the Arizona Harold Fish shooting in which one of several factors used to convict the man was the fact that he was...

Please Check my Ballistics Data on the 7.62X39

Thank you for the input. I went ahead and zeroed at 100 yards then checked POI at 75, 50, and closer. I didn't have access to anything longer today. I know it's not a precision weapon but I just wanted to have an idea of how much to hold over out to about 200 yds.

Please Check my Ballistics Data on the 7.62X39

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong area to post this. I just put a red dot sight on my AK-47 which will be used for hog eradication. I will be using Monarch ammo from Academy and Wolf ammo...all 123 grains. I'm planning to sight it in for 50 yards and wanted to be sure of POI out to...

Info, Testing and Evaluation of Springfield XD's?

I also saw that same thing in someone's internet gun post but I could not find any other source to back it up. Here's some other information that I found: Ron Avery Article and Review of the XD XD Torture Test Review from HiPowers and Handguns Clint Smith and XD's

Info, Testing and Evaluation of Springfield XD's?

I posted about this on the XD forums but received no feedback on it. Can anyone please help me out with this? I'm a police officer and competitive shooter. I carried a 1911 for about 10 years. After leaving SWAT and going into an investigative unit, I was looking for a high capacity pistol...

    "Claiming Responsibility for Social Violence?"

I'm in grad school at the University of Texas at Dallas. Over the last couple of years, there's been a lot of discussion and controversy about the specter of school shootings and RKBA issues. Those who advocate concealed carry on campus have been marginalized and even ridiculed. Somehow, the...

what do you lubricate your firearms with!?

For most everything: Whatever kind of gun oil is handy (Breakfree, RemOil, 3-in-1, etc.) For slides and bolts: 70% Marvel Mystery Oil and 30% Slick 50. Mixed some up about 5 years ago and I still have about half a quart left. It works very, very well but don't get it on any part of the weapon...

    Shipping A Rifle With USPS

I shipped a shotgun to Arizona from Texas recently via FedEx and it cost me $16. I also recently received a heavy Remington 700 from Georgia and the shipping cost via UPS was approximately $15. Having shipped a few long guns via USPS, I recall that they are usually slightly more expensive than...

Change TX Law on Suppressor Use for Hunting Game Animals?

Only 20 response thus far. Here are the comments from the survey: 1. 16 Other states allow suppressors for hunting game animals. It doesn't seem to be a problem for them. 2. TX Game Wardens as a whole will never support this. Too many cases are made by hearing the gun shot... 3. I don't...

Change TX Law on Suppressor Use for Hunting Game Animals?

To all Texas Hunters on THR: As many of us know, we can legally use suppressors when hunting non-game animals (e.g. coyotes and feral hogs) but we cannot use them while hunting game animals (i.e. deer). I know there's a lot of us who would like to use suppressors while deer hunting. After a...
