    Looking for old reloading handbooks

In the 12th edition of Cartridges if the World, It has one listing of a 250gr lead bullet, Lyman #429251 with 42gr of IMR4198. I would definately start low and by very cautious in any load. It was a black powder loading originally. Be careful and cautious. It would be prudent to slug the barrel...

2017-2018 deer hunters- What did you take deer with this year?

Took my first deer, a 4 point with a PA10 shooting a 165 gr Hornady sp interlock. 4 steps and then down. The second was a nice doe at 10 yards. In memory of my Dad, I used his old Savage 340c in 30-30 with Remington 170gr core-lokt. She went about two feet---straight down. That old Savage had...

    Most unusual handgun you've carried.

In the early 80's, carried a Beretta 1935 a few times when I had to go to the interesting part of town. It's was a 32acp unofficial Italian service round. That pistol was reliable and accurate.

Unknown casing and question about seating

X-ring is correct. The case is military surplus made at the Twin Cities plant. That's why the primer is crimped. It is usually a heavier brass then our regular commercial.

Hammer won't cock, cylinder doesn't rotate. Any ideas?

It sounds like the hand. I'd get it to a gunsmith. With my small motor skills, if a hammer doesn't fix it, go to a pro. There are a few videos on YouTube on replacing the hand.

What happens when the rifling twist is too tight?

The length of the barrel effects speed of the bullet and sight radius. Once the bullet is spinning fast enough for stabilization, its fine, for your purpose, a faster spin will not give you any advantage.

    22/250 on Missouri Whitetails

My brother and I have been using our 223s for a number of years here in central Missouri with great success. As with any deer rifle, use an appropriate bullet, know your limitations and put the bullet where it belongs and you will do fine. Last season, my SIL shot a nice buck at 200 yards which...

    380 reloading ?s

Have used 231 for the 380 for a number of years. Using berry bullets 100 gr plated over 3.0 gr. as with all Internet info, work up your loads using good reloading procedures. I am not at home, and don't have the col which is very important.

    Swiss K31

Have used mine for deer for a number of years. The longest one was a nice doe at 200 yards. The closest was 10 yards. With a rifle as accurate as the Swiss, if you do your job, it will put the bullet where it belongs. I use the 165 gr Hornady interlock stock number 3040 with 45gr of imr 4064...

    Mosin rough bolt

With my Mosins, more than a few, I have noticed at times that certain ammo is harder to close and open the bolt also. I found out that sometimes the rim is a little thick on some runs of surplus ammo, In that I have not shot them for a while, I do not remember which years and who made them...

    Anyone carry a Bersa 45 Ultra Compact-Review

Have both the 45UC and the BT380. Like everyone else, after a number of thousand rounds through each, not one problem. Well one. After adjusting the rear sight, I didn't lock the screw and the blade fell off. Called the service center and had another blade for the BT380 in a few days. Right...

Win 231/HP-38 must be made of Unobtanium?

Just today at my local LGS, I picked up a jug of HP-38. They had 4 on the shelf. No small pistol primers but I have tried to keep a couple of thousand on hand.

Are ARs socially acceptable for deer hunting?

Both my brother and I have used the AR for a number of years now. We are both in our 60's and find them more than capable and adequate. In the past 5 years we and our kids have taken a good number of deer with them. As with any rifle, you do your part, use the correct bullet (as with any...

Vietnam Vets and the Guns They Loved

When I received my draft notice in 68, I had a Mossberg 500 12 ga, a remington nylon 66 .22 and a Savage 340 bolt in 30-30 and finally a savage 24 in 22/410. nothing expensive but all very reliable. Still have the 500 and the nylon 66. Didn't get the Black rifle until a few years ago. Still...
