I have to learn to shoot a little better first. Half the reason I've been shooting so much is to get better, because I'm not a great shot. Then I got into reloading because ammo is expensive (and scarce). Basically I'm just working my way up from the bottom of the totem pole so-to-speak...
that was the recommended starting load from the manual. The batch I loaded this morning is in the 3.6-3.7 vicinity. I don't think I'll be going much higher than that. The whole reason i got into reloading was because i couldnt find ammo for my gold cup. And after yesterday's outing I...
I loaded up my first batch of bullets yesterday: 100 rounds of 45acp. Took the recipe straight out of the lyman manual for 185gn SWC. Loaded real light with 3.5gn Bullseye. I don't think my Gold Cup has been any happier! Its really wierd at first shooting a .45 with so little recoil. Works...
I work off the lyman manual, and a friend of mine (who works at lyman writing the book-his pic is in the manual actually) told me primers can vary pressures by as much as 3000#. I would definitely want a second source to take that as gospel, but he concluded hat saying as long as I don't load...
I bought my .40 because it was a reasonably priced 1911, 16-rd mag capacity, and something different to shoot for a change. I love shooting my .45's, .44's and .357's, but once in a while its nice to eshoot something else for a change. It's a nice gun. I like it.
I just ordered 2k large pistol and 2k small pistol winchester's from cabelas. Ordered on sunday, they SAY it should be here by next wednesday. I'm kinda lookin forward to starting reloading too. BTW they were around $30/k plus the $20 HazMat fee. They were the only website I saw that could...
no .45 acp in connecticut. I'm getting my reloading equipment in today. Rumor has it (and i do mean rumor-not gospel) that theres stuff in the works to ban reloading in CT. Oh well they want my press they can come and get it:evil:
my father has a usfa single action 44-40 that came with a .44spl cylinder. Just doesn't have adjustable sights, but any gunsmith could do that easily. Its nice to have a pistol that shoots 44spl/44-40. Mcuh more fun to shoot than 44 mag if you ask me.
I have both a python and a smith 629 .44 mag. I like the smith trigger too, but if you like it better than a python trigger then you might just want to have that python trigger looked at.
If your shop has a gold cup in stock, look into that. I picked mine up for about $950 new. It may seem pricey but for an extra $200 you get a national match grade barrel, match grade adjustable trigger, wraparound grips, and a beautiful colt bluing job. You can't do that to a gun for $200. If...
local gun shop has one in lnib conditin for $850. I got some stuff to trade in to scrooge the price down a little. Is it worth it? Anyone with any experience with these guns?
i have a buddy that works for lyman's and had him snag me a set of pachmayr compac's for my 642. They're a little bulkier for carry, but still not noticeable in your pocket. The gun is much easier to shoot and drastically reduced recoil. I first read about them in a gun mag too im trying to...
Thanks for all the help. I saw some equipment in brownell's, but before i bought anything i was hoping maybe there was a book on the subject. After many google searches apparently not. I will definitely check into the other links though and thanks again!

As the title says I'm interested in getting into gun refinishing. I've always tried to do everything myself when it came to automotive stuff and I guess that trait is spilling over into my gunwork. I have some guns that I would like to see refinished, maybe plated. Rather than spend $300 on a...
I agree with you in that argument. I believe that the people who write these articles are not stupid and definitely know more than I do about guns. I consider myself a student of firearms. I am always learning and never assume that I know more than anyone about anything when it comes to guns...
x2. the crown on mine looks horrendous but it shoots pretty well for a snub. Smiths are pricey and you get what you pay for. I thought i would get a little better workmanship for $400 but it goes bang every trigger pull so i guess asking anything else out of an econo-snub is somewhat greedy.
I've been looking to customize my p16-40 for carry but its awfully tough to find things for. I've been looking specifically for a fitted shoulder rig and grips, but can't seem to come up with a whole lot. Will stuff for a p14-45 work?
