Looking for a "tackle box" gun. Recommendations?

So, I do a lot of kayaking and fishing around my area. I am looking for an inexpensive but somewhat quality pistol for taking along on these trips. I am looking hard at the Taurus PT22 poly models right now, but figured some of you might have some other suggestions to consider. Keeping in mind...

    Odd Mauser

Picked up this rifle at a pawn shop yesterday. It is chambered in .243, based on a large ring Mauser style action, nice walnut stock in good shape overall. The bolt stop is not the traditional Mauser stop though. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc376/jl1966/DSCN0777.jpg I...

    Gun shop cruising

I always wonder how people come by the guns they get. Some people at work know that I am into guns, and tell me about guns for sale. I watch craigslist, even though guns are not supposed to be sold on there, you see a few. When I have time I try to hit the yard sales, bought a remington 552 like...

    Choosing the best bad outcome.

I enjoy reading, and participating in the discussions on this site. The hypothetical or even recounting and discussion of real happenings, are very thought provoking. I often do my own little version of this with stories from the newspaper, trying to formulate a plan, As if I were in the same...

    Learning the 1911

Okay, so I bought a 1911:D. Well, I am a Glock type of guy. Yeah I know,:barf:, well, humor me. I am a fairly experienced shooter, PPC, IDPA, GSSF, as well as profesional training. All with Glocks. The thing is, I am trying to learn the same skills that I have cultivated with that platform...

    Any Colt shooters?

Does anyone shoot a colt double action on a regular basis? I mean, in competition, as a service weapon or a self or home defense weapon, which is practiced with regularly, as in say, at least 100 rds a month or so. I ask because I have never seen anyone who does this, at least since cops quit...

    Recoil pad for Savage

Has anyone tried changing the recoil pad on one of the newer Savage synthetic stocks. Specifically to one of the Sims/ limbsaver pads. I have seen them for the wood stocked guns but not the plastic ones. It is a model 11 7mm-08, the stock pad is kinda thin. It is an accutrigger gun also. Thanks.

    Iron sights with a scope

Here is the front sight which I removed from the barrel of the 788 in one of my other threads. It is made of steel and rather heavy. Does it seem to you guys that this would be detrimental to accuracy? Seems like it to me. what do most people do about the sights on a scoped gun? I usually remove...

    788 mumblings

I picked this rifle up recently. Found it in a pawn shop. Remington 788, .243, Simmons Deerfield 3x9, Ironsighter rings. I will probably change the whole optics setup before too long. I have a whole drawer full of those rings that let you use the iron sights. They are evidently pretty popular...

    Bad and malfunctioning scopes

Lets hear about the worst scope you ever owned. I mean your stories about that scope you bought and it turned out to be junk, just plain unusable. If you have a Leupold, or a Tasco that has been on your .458 for thirty years that is great, but save that for another thread. I want to know about...

    Mossberg 800a

I just picked up a Mossberg 800a .308 at the local pawn shop for $250. It is in pretty good shape with a Simmons 3x9 on it, and a leather military style sling. A few dents in the wood, but nothing bad, and good to excellent bluing. I never even knew Mossberg made bolt action rifles, aparently...
