I have the Savage model 40 Varmint Hunter single shot in 22 Hornet with that problem, did the same as you and also reprofiled the extractor, bought them from Numrich, called Savage and they told me they didn't have the parts for that model, took a shot on the rimfire MKII parts fitting and...

What have you done in the reloading room today

I have very hard water you can watch the flakes of calcium melt out of the ice cubes and settle to the bottom of glass at my house! Today I tried the automotive wax and wash touted by Blue68f100 1 table spoon and 1/2 tbs straight lemon juice with the pins and they turned out very good.

What have you done in the reloading room today

Thanks, Hey "necessity is the mother of invention", I was looking at a youtube post and the Folgers plastic coffee can has grab handles molded into it they extended into the interior of the can and would help agitate the brass and solution, you might try one of those.

What have you done in the reloading room today

Back into it after a long hiatus (health),decided to get into the wet tumbling with pins, dug out an old Loreton drum tumbler from my metal detector equipment and tried a few handfuls of 22 Hornet brass Dawn soap and lemon juice with the pins, what a mess, had pins all over the place and plenty...

    Favorite .224?

I voted 22 Hornet, this little work horse is very thrifty, super accurate, and is no slouch in speed 3,000 fps with the right powder bullet combo. Tales of taking game in the white tail deer class make me shiver 'cause I'm not that type of hunter, but as a varmint/small game it's worth my vote.

Mini 14 kinda new to me

A bolt buffer is a good cheap way of taking some of the slam bang away from the frame. You may have to shave the buffer down to keep the last shot bolt open feature, easy to do with a sheet of sand paper.

    Choose a gun

I chose the Bernadelli, Had the 22 rimfire model in the late seventies and traded it away, very reliable solid built copy of the Walther PP. This was the pre- 68GCA version.

What was the first cartridge/gun you ever fired?

My first one was a shooting gallery at a local carnival, probably a Remington model 12 shooting bb caps, I was 8 years old and my father coached me standing by my side, that was 1955.

    Cleaning new gun

I like to take an old toothbrush and clean, then some paste wax apply, to the grips and buff both sides of the wood.

    Favorite Varmint/Small Game Walkabout Rifles/Cartridges

A Remington 12A 22 rimfire and H@R Sportsman, is my combo for squirrel or cotton tails. A Savage Model 40 single shot heavy barrel 22 Hornet, with 40 grain Vmax and Lil'Gun powder will do the dirty deed on whistle pigs or Wiley coyote.

Winchester 94 - Dented Case Mouths

Just for fun, check the length of the flattened cases and compare to the normal ones. They may be longer causing the "timing" problem.
