Well, I finally jumped into casting

You skipped a step--sizing. You need to determine the bore size of the guns you'll be using, then size your bullets appropriately. The Lyman 4500 sizes and lubes in one step.

    Tried offhand shooting... need advice

Start close. From the looks of the target, I don't see anything resembling individual groups. Pick a group size that you wish to hold. Get close, REALLY close to the target. How close will depend on what group size you chose. When you can hold all your shots within that size group, back up 5...

If you had to do it all over again

If you're short on time and don't "like" reloading, by all means, a progressive is the way to go. For 20 years I did all my reloading on an RCBS Jr single stage. Thousands upon thousands of rounds, never one misfire, hangfire, overload or squib. Not one, ever. After getting a progressive, I did.

    Box fed lever action

I started out with a .30-30 and soon decided there were better rounds to be had. But in my case, the fact remains that every game animal I've ever taken could have just as easily been taken with the .30-30.

    Testing pistol loads/rests?

Get closer to the target. Start out close enough that aiming errors can be easily seen. If it won't group up close, it won't group at distance, that's for sure. Once you find a load that groups well up close, move the target back. Keep in mind what you're seeing is the total variation in...

Why registering guns is not the same as registering cars

There is nothing in the Constitution saying "the right to keep and bear transportation shall not be infringed."

    Box fed lever action

The takedown BLR can be cleaned from the breech.

    Box fed lever action

I think it would actually have fewer moving parts. Tube fed rifles have to have a cartridge lifter and shell stop.

    Handloads for the 243Winchester

You're going to have to do your part for that to happen, which is way more important than what bullet you use.

Surprise! It's NOT Just Bump Stocks (Ban Announcement)...

If the bump-stock ban goes into effect, it will probably cost lives. Aimed fire is more deadly.

Best 300 Win Mag for Moose hunt

If we were to list how many moose killed by particular caliber, the winner would probably be a 6.5 x 55. .30-06 is whole lot more powerful than a 6.5 x55. If I was wanting a rifle more powerful than a .30-06, it wouldn't be a 7mm or a .300 Mag. I would opt for a .338-06. More caliber, more...

Who owns "pairs" of pistols: big and small, short and tall??

I have quite a few pairs of calibers, but only one pair of a particular model gun--Colt 1911's, a Series 70 and a Series 80. I didn't deliberately do this; the second one was just too good of a bargain to pass up, especially since it came with a factory .22 LR conversion.

Best 2nd Amendment Analogy and Pro Gun Argument ever written

This is what disturbs me--that a single court decision (I don't care if it is the Supreme Court) can nullify one (or all just as easily) of the Rights set forth in the US Constitution. That isn't checks and balance; it's check and checkmate for a lousy 9-person Ivy Leage committee who's grasp...

    Ruger MKIV final verdict?

I just took apart a 22/45 last night. Don't know what 'Mark' it was; it didn't have any marking to tell. I couldn't remember either the disassembly or reassembly sequence so I had to consult the manual. Following the directions, it was a piece of cake. Despite having done this before, I...

It won't show up in Hodgdon's info because Unique is an Alliant powder. Hodgdon's nearest competitor to Unique is their Universal.

How does one now defend (in a nutshell) owning AR-15s?

Not saying you're wrong, but how did the armed guard/mitigation occur? The murderer left on his own, as I understand it.

How does one now defend (in a nutshell) owning AR-15s?

Some. In Oklahoma City, a rental truck carried the explosive and the building housed a day care center. While they were not school children, a rented Home Depot truck was used to kill people in New York. Seems more common in Europe, where they have fewer guns. The tool used changes but the...
