    Webley Mark 6

I will say again, 265 gr bullet at 630fps. Dunno if that is considered mouse fart, but if you push it too far the chamber walls bulge into the into the 'locking slots' cut into the outside of the cylinder. Then the brass won't eject without you pounding it out and subsequent rounds will stick...

    Webley Mark 6

You are looking for a 265 grain soft lead bullet to clock 630fps. Just as a guide, that is IPSC power factor ((265*630)/1000) = 166 which is just about major. 45 acp would be ((230 * 820)/1000) = 188.

    Webley Mark 6

    > Loads for the 455 Eley are very similar to the 45 Schofield and 45 Autorim Those are a bit hot for the Webley. It was popular to skim the back of the cylinder so that 45acp in moon clips would fit it, but 45acp is hot for the gun. I guess that Hornady brass would be the Mk II brass...

    Reloading for .223 bolt action

    > I'm assuming these are small rifle primers? They are, but don't just use 'any' small rifle primers. Rem 6.5 won't take the pressure. I use CCI 450s which are magnum primers for 24 grains of TAC behind a Nosler 69 gr HPBT. Thats almost a max load so work up to it. I have HEARD that Win SRP...

    RL-15 for medium weight 6mmBR ?

I saw some reloading data for Varget in 6mmBR with 75 grain Nosler BTs that was published in 'Handloader' some time ago. It was in the 30 to 33 grain range being used in a Savage 12 LRPV. Has anyone any recipes for RL-15 with about the same weight bullet ? RL-15 and Varget seem to be very...

    Ruger No. 1

I believe that all No 1's have a rib on the top of the barrel that Ruger scope rings mount to. You get the rings with the gun. The No 1V's have a pair of scope ring blocks on the heavy barrel that again, Ruger rings attach to.

85 year-old WWII Sniper shoots new Army Sniper Rifle

    > But his modesty was greater than his skills and he managed with > ease to pick off the target, with three impressive head shots all > within five inches of each other. Now that is impressive. 5 inches at 1000 yards. I wish I could do that at 500 yards. Good for him !

    Handloads for .455 Webley

Folks, just a reminder that if you are not shooting soft lead hollow based bullets, your Webley is unlikely to shoot well. If you measure the cylinder throats you will find them to be about .450" (+/- a few thou). The barrel will be at least .455" in the groves. Without the hollow base that...

Loading a Savage 99/250-3000 for deer

Thank you NCSmitty. I think the Sierra Gameking's will be the next purchase. Fully agree about 'pushing it' with the 99. It looks like its a pretty old gun. I don't imagine we will stray above the starting loads for RL-15 in the Lyman manual. Why RL-15 ? I have lots of it in the garage for my...

Loading a Savage 99/250-3000 for deer

My friend/neighbor has been left a Savage 99 as part of his fathers estate. No ammunition with the gun. He wants to get it up and running again for deer hunting. Reading the Lyman 49 entry, it looks like we need some 87 grain bullets as the gun has a 1:14 twist (I measured it with a cleaning...

    Double rifles VS bolts

    > For those that can afford such, it is probably a better hedge on inflation than almost any other arm? I agree. Am considering cashing out my 401k and buying into Rigby and H&H. Even if I don't get a 'better' ROI, just the pleasure of ownership will be enough. Given the performance of my...

    Double rifles VS bolts

Offhand, that is a wonderful example. I have never seen the 'drop locks' out of an action like that and am very impressed at the jewelling detail. Looking at the action locks, it looks like a Greener cross bolt that locks the dolls head as well as the lower bites. When you operate the...

    Double rifles VS bolts

    625 opinions please

Steel moon clips are a PITA, but offer very fast reload times. As I reload, I use 45 Auto Rim in mine but you can get polymer moon clips for it. I haven't used them, but they sound a lot better then the steel ones. http://www.ezmoonclip.com/

Ack, I think I might have made a big mistake here in 454 Casull HELP

You would normally increase the power charge for lighter bullets, so what you have now are rounds with a light load. Given that you are using rifle primers, I can't imagine you will have ignition problems. Go ahead a fire a few. You won't damage the gun but it is very unlikely they will shoot to...

22-250 barrel life and twist rate ?

    > On my .22-250 the barrel started going south at about 1400 rounds. 1400 rounds ! Tony Angel, we are on the same page. I don't consider putting a faster twist barrel on the gun to be a material change that would impact it's value. Hence the desire to let Wetherby do it, if it's a...

22-250 barrel life and twist rate ?

Thank you to both NCsmitty and Art for your suggestions about setting the barrel back or going for a stainless. Part of the dilemma is that the gun is an honest 99% apart from the (shot out) barrel. Its current owner shot a lot of varmints off of bags on a rest. If it was any other gun than a...
