Changing Wood Handles on Ruger Blackhawk Flattop

I am thinking of changing the wood stock on my Ruger Blackhawk .45 and I am wondering if the frame has ever changed on a Ruger Blackhawk so a handle could fit on one but not on the other.

How do you clean your brass??

I use a few drops of Cabela's brass cleaner in corn cob media and tumble for fifteen minutes, then put my brass in and then tumble for about an hour. This makes the outside look like new, but the inside still looks dirty. I then put them through my Hornaday Sonic Cleaner using an ounce of One...

Proper Disposal of Hornaday's One Shot Solution

I am considering purchasing a Hornaday Sonic Cleaner. In reading about the process, the One Shot chemical they recommend seems pretty potent. If anyone uses this cleaner, what is the proper way to dispose of the cleaning solution after it has served it purpose?

    Significance of case gauge testing

I recently purchased a Dillon Stainless Steel .45 case gauge. When testing some of my previously reloaded ammo, I found one round where the rim did not fit flush against the top of the gauge, as shown in the first photo. However, when plunk testing it in the barrel of my Kimber, see second...

    Brass Failure?

zchaparral: When I pulled the trigger, my hands were blackened from the powder coming from the gun, some flew back into my face, (yes, I was wearing safety glasses) and the slide flew back and was jammed by part of spent shell

    Brass Failure?

macgrumpy: It is impossible to tell much about the primer since the area normally indented by the firing pen has been pushed back and to the side so that it is protruding rearward.

    Brass Failure?

I purchased the case new from Starline Brass several years ago and have no idea how many times I have loaded it. I have heard that some people have used brass until the head stamp is no longer readable. As a consequence, as long as it didn't show any signs of stress I continued to use it. I...

    Brass Failure?

By bullet set back - are you talking about the bullet being set back from the kick back of the previous shots fired? If so, how could I prevent that in the future?

    Brass Failure?

I was on the gun range practicing double taps when this occurred to one of my cartridges. It is a Starline brass casing that has been used for a good while, but no signs of failure. e.g. cracks or white lines. The load was 5.2 grains of Winchester 231. the bullet, seated at 1.260", was a 230...

    Queston on C.O.L.

Thanks for all of your replies. You are right, R.C. The 1.200" given on Hodgdon's must be the minimum for the charge, regardless of firearm. I just ASSumed that it was the optimum length. I loaded 50 rounds at 5.2 gr Win with C.O.L. of 1.260 and they all cycled with no problem. However, the...

    Queston on C.O.L.

Thanks for the information. I am going to load a batch of Ranier 230gr RN at 1.250 and see if that works. I am curious to find out when I chronograph them what effect the greater C.O.L. has on the FPS.

    Queston on C.O.L.

According to Hodgdon Reloading Center website, all loads shown for 230gr RN with W231 were with C.O.L. of 1.200". When shooting loads to those specs in my Colt Commander, I had several in a box of fifty that would not feed properly. When I lengthened the C.O.L. to 1.220, I had no more problems...

    Powder less affected by temperature

In his book: The Glock in Competition, Robin Taylor states that W231 is very sensitive to temperature and that some competitive shooters using W231 have failed Power factor test. My question is, What powders are used by those of you who shoot in IDPA competition? Thanks for replies.

    Glock and Cast Bullets

I have heard on a youtube video that Glocks cannot handle cast bullets. Has anyone used cast bullets with a Glock? I presently load MBC coated softballs for my Colt Commander and would like to continue those loads with a new pistol.
