Illinois members-Call your state reps NOW!

This is worrisome, even for those of us outside Illinois. I'm honestly beginning to think the bliss-ninnies are oblivious as to the danger of the fire they are playing with.

How could I have better reacted to this threat?

I used to open carry quite a bit more, before I started carrying a gun "professionally" (hate the word, but you get my drift). After a few go-arounds of defensive tactics and awareness training, I'm much more attentive to where hands are in relation to my weapon. I do carry a level 3 holster on...

    My First MWAG Experience

That varies state to state. Example...here in MN, police may request to see a permit and ID at any time for a carried gun.

Will A New AWB Happen: A Poll

Nationally, I think the House will stop it. However, I think a number of states (including mine) have storms coming.

How could I have better reacted to this threat?

If you grab my gun, I'm breaking your arm, whether I'm on duty or off (federal security). That said, I always carry concealed when I'm not working unless I'm teaching a class. I also have an offhand knife when I'm working or carrying openly for classes. Hard to grab my gun if I'm slicing...

New WI carry class...in Eau Claire, July 23rd

Unknown as of yet. Based on the training requirements, my guess is that a MN permit will be recognized by WI, but there is almost no chance MN will honor a WI permit.

Best Reloading Manual for 45 LC?

I'm trying to get some <800fps cowboy loads, so I'll stick to the lighter end of the charts. ;-)

Best Reloading Manual for 45 LC?

Heh. You and I are in the exact same boat... I'm starting with the Lyman and the Loadbook. If there are other suggestions, I'm game... -Mark

    Dillon Press

 Just a note, and I should have elaborated...with the 550, you can use any standard-sized dies (Dillon, RCBS, etc.). Carbide is your friend, of course. But if you want to drink the Dillon Kool-Aid and stick with true blue, you can certainly do so. I did. :D Great service, great equipment.

Small hangun primers VS Large hangun primers

I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to read that manual before you even touch a press. Reloading is more popular than ever due to the cost of ammo these days. That's the good news. The bad news is that it means more and more people are rushing into it without knowing the...

first batch of reloads and I have some ?s

Yup. If your dimensions are on (and those lengths should not be too long for the caliber, BTW), then it's time to look at your loads. Minimum loads may not cycle your slide with enough nuts to properly load the next round. Trust me, I've been there, and with a XD as well. :o -Mark

    Dillon Press

toddyboman- Depends...how new are you to reloading? If you've already been working on a different press, then you've likely got all the usual reloading gear and just need the Dillon-specific stuff (pickup tubes, dies, shell holders, extra toolheads, etc.). If you're new to reloading, then...

    Nearly shot my wife!

Just because he's right doesn't make him a rabbit. You are wrong. Flat. Out. Wrong. It's your life to lose. I'm done trying to convince folks in this thread that they aren't 10% as good as they think they are. If you haven't tried the force on force scenario mentioned, you should. You will...

    New reloader to 44 spl

I've been doing Powderpuff loads, 200gr Red River with 5.5gr of Bullseye behind it.

    Nearly shot my wife!

You need to take a step too...toward not moving your finger toward that trigger until you have identified your target. I see a very distinct lack of you taking any responsibility for this incident, instead talking about getting your wife to learn a lesson. You both are to blame, and both of you...

A scenario that has me thinking...

I have. I can ratchet it up just fine. I prefer escaping. Less legal trouble, fewer bad dreams. That doesn't mean I'm going to take a beating, it just means I'm not all that anxious to take it all the way. Rainbowbob raises a very good point above. A life or death encounter is no time to...

A scenario that has me thinking...

Two notes: 1) Reasonable is defined by whatever a jury says it is. 2) If you kill the person, you are not covered under the statutes you listed. You would then be put under RCW 9A.16.050. Granted, those have broad definition, but the word reasonable is still there. Reasonable to you...

    Best pepper spray option

I've been sprayed (work-related training years ago). Hurts like hell. These days, just for ease of form factor I'm likely to grab a Kimber Pepper Blaster II. But for potency? Fox Labs. N-A-S-T-Y stuff. -Mark

A scenario that has me thinking...

This. As Maslow put it, "It is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail." This is why folks will often see me post things such as "You do have self defense training outside of shooting, right?" I'm not doing it to be a jerk, I'm doing it because...

A Re-visit to "What to do if someone is kicking down your door?"

Not losing sight of it in the least. Here in MN, simply breaking and entering is not a felony, and shooting them under such circumstances is a felony. That math is not in my favor. What they do after entering is what determines whether I can shoot without going to prison. -Mark
