What you learned after the gun purchase...

Several years ago I bought an old (1948) Colt 1911 38 super that had been converted to .38 spl wadcutter. To the seller it was just an old Colt that wasn't original. To me it was a base for a beautiful classic carry gun. $450 and out the door, took it home and into the safe. I figured a couple...

    Cartridge conversion--can I do this?

I can't answer your opening question. But as to your second, I don't believe gunsmiths were doing conversions outside the Colt factory. The term conversion and the fact that there are conversion kits for replica guns causes some confusion. It was explained to me that back in 1871 Colt wasn't...

Biggest Groaner Thread When You See It (Again)?

I have to go with any "caliber war" thread. Most specifically 9mm vs .45acp. I've been seeing the same tired argument since the early 80s. But now instead of once a month in a gun rag, it's a few times a week in one or more internet forum.

    Kahr and 1911

I don't own one but... Thompson has had a pretty spotty reputation over the years. I've heard of lots of QC problems with them. However, since being bought by Kahr arms QC has suposedly gotten much better. For some good knowledgable feedback you may want to ask over at...

    Holidays Are Coming

A cap & ball revolver They are relatively inexpensive (as guns go). They can be bought as gifts without the paperwork hassles. They open up a whole new aspect of shooting to experienced shooters, and are an immensly fun way to introduce a newbie to the sport. I own 3. The first was a...

    gun screen savers?

Very simple "do it yourself" Most windows PCs have a screen saver that runs a slide show of your own pics. I've got a folder of gun pics collected from all over the net. Forums, manufactrers, etc... Now you've got a custom screen saver that only dispays guns you find interesting.

What is it that attracts you to semi autos?

I don't specifically prefer autos to revolvers. I like the 1911 platform because of its classic lines, reliability, accuracy, balance, etc. These are all the same reasons I like S&W K frames. SAA type revolvers, and the Ruger MKII.

    Ruger Mark III Hunter

I picked up a MKIII Hunter when they were first introduced. I've had a MKII for years and love it. When I handled the MKIII... "WOW" The feel, the balance... perfect. I couldn't buy it fast enough. At the range was a different story. I could never get a good sight picture with those fiber optic...

    what is this?

I've see one of these before. I believe the intention is that you hold the pistol enclosed in your fist with your middle finger on the trigger. Your index finger would be above the barrel. The recoil impulse would be straight back into the palm. Probably wouldn't be too bad actually.

Post Your Targets 6 - Gnome, Gnome on the Range

A Ruger MKII was used. All shots fired one handed "duelist" style, which I believe is the propper way to dispatch one of these lawn lurking hooligans. Trigger time was a bit longer than 6 seconds as I was using .22CBs which require hand cycling the action. I was shooting in my back yard range...

    Got my Dan Wesson Razorback!

I've got an early production razorback. I don't shoot it a lot these days and every now and then I think I want to sell it. Then I take it out and put 100 rounds through it and I'm reminded why I don't.

    Best 1911 Under $2k?

You're going to need to be more specific... What are you looking for in features? There are an awful lot of 1911s out there for less than $2K. And the term "best" is subjective. For instance, I have no use for beaver tail safeties, night sights, or tactical extended ambidextrous anything. I...

Wild Wild west/Taxi Driver gun device

I always thought the best demonstration of this device was in the movie "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" starring Andrew (dice man) Clay. In a crowded nightclub, confronted by superior numbers, our hero took a traditional tough guy stance, made some witty comment, and with a flick of his wrist...

Am I lucky? Or do cheap holsters work?

I'm with Werewolf... Ive been carrying a 1911 in a Don Hume holster for 7 years now and have been totally satisfied. If it ever wears out I'll get another just like it.

can we have a non fanboy discussion about glock?

For a knock around workin pistol you probably can't go wrong with a glock. I owned a G31 for a while. I had wanted something to try out the (then new) .357 sig. I fell into a good deal on the glock. I couldn't say a bad thing about it. It balanced well in my hand. The sights were easy to "pick...
