Congratulations shoebox1.1...happy to hear that it has arrived and you are pleased with the action. It sure looks handsome with those wood grips!

    taurus 856 grips

You are right...it's not that hard to drive the pin out. I'm just old and like to complain sometimes...I need to catch myself on that. I didn't like the stock grips on my 2" Taurus 856 (UL) either so I installed the Pachmayr rosewood Renegade. The jury is still out on performance. But I do like...

    38+p / 357 Mid-size All-Rounder

My first thought when I read your op Jackal1 was....Colt. But I since your considerations are S&W I thought best not to weigh in. But now that you mentioned it in your post further down.... I like the SP101 suggestion as well...but while I hesitate to think heirloom, you never know. Look what...

    taurus 856 grips

I'm just going to come out and say it....would it have killed Taurus to have foregone the roll pin and allowed for a screw so you don't have to punch out the pin every time you want to change grips. Otherwise, I like my 2" SS UL. But, yes...a little snappy with +p fodder. My 3" Defender comes...

    taurus 856 grips

If you haven't already, take a look at these on the official Taurus site :https://shoptaurus.com/grips/?_bc_fsnf=1&Model=Taurus+856 .See if there is something that appeals. As well, Midway has the Pachmayr rosewood Renegade wood grips that will fit. (I think you can find them on Amazon as well...

Price check on a 1975 Colt Detective 38 special

That was a good deal. My how things have changed in just three short years. I have been looking to order some factory loaded .38 Special ammo on line. The pricing nearly brings me to tears. I remember when I was young I always thought it was the hallmark of the old to complain about prices...

Price check on Rossi M711 please

....I'm going from memory here since I sold off my 971 over 25 years ago....I believe the Rossi frame is just a little larger than a S&W K, but that most K Frame size holsters fit the Rossi. I think mine rode in a Bianchi Shadow. You might have to order a few off-the-shelf holsters from...

First S&W semi for this old man

    Classic indeed...Congratulations....Very fine pistol.

Price check on a 1975 Colt Detective 38 special

I dunno, and dislike being negative, but somewhere north of $800 is going to be the norm. It would be hard to find a seller who isn't aware of what the DS sells for on-line. Unless they are in desperate need of cash, it's a sellers market. I think Dave, you got an awfully good price at $699...

    Had one 35+ years ago...

CONGRATULATIONS !!....most of us know in one way or another the disappointment of loosing something we value...and the thrill of having the opportunity of replacing that loss. I couldn't be happier for you.

Price check on Rossi M711 please

Than main drawback is that posting a photo of the revolver in a Ruger thread would be a non sequitur. :D

Price check on Rossi M711 please

Reliability solid....most everyone who has owned them has been more than pleased. The only issue I am aware of is that one owner reported he had a firing pin break. Not much goes wrong with these Interarms Rossi revolvers. If it's LNIB it's unlikely the seller is moving a "lemon". The 971 was...

Price check on Rossi M711 please

I think in todays world $475 for a 971 LNIB is reasonable. I had one...it shot great and I am sorry I parted with it. You can spend on the wood grips later to ease the outlay upfront. Fewer and fewer 971's are going to show up NIB. You won't have anything to be ashamed of if you buy this...

    Ruger Security Six

I foolishly sold a 4" off when I needed some cash, but found this 2.75" in 2005 before prices started to stratosphere. I jumped all over it for $300 used.

    442 finish questions

Just out of curiosity...is this aluminum clear-coat finish issue endemic just to the S&W Air-weights...or does it show up on Charter, Taurus, etc as well ?
  18. D

    442 finish questions

Not a 442, but a family member 37-2 bobbed hammer...with the same finish. This has been carried in a Mika pocket holster for more than 15 years and the finish has held up pretty good except for some finish wear along the barrel tip, which is to be expected.

    Which gun for home defense

    I just bought both a 3" SS Taurus 856 Defender and a 2" SS 856 UL...they both pass muster. And I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Smith and Colt type.
