Do you consider where/how you sit in a restaurant while carrying

Like most, I will always choose my back to the wall, where I can see the main entrance. I prefer an aisle seat, I’m a lefty and want my gun hand free. I don’t want to be struggling to get clear of a table.

Are malfunctions more or less likely in self-defense?

Go over to the Active Self Protection channel on YouTube. I’ve watched a lot of self defense videos and it’s very rare for a citizen (not police) to have a malfunction. The most common ‘malfunction’ that gets people hurt or killed is not having a round in the chamber. That and trying to draw...

    Is Concealed Carry A "Lifestyle"?

I think of it as a lifestyle as the way someone who CCWs and has guns lives is different from those that don’t. The clothes you wear are a size larger or cut different to accommodate a gun in a holster. Your home has a gun safe (or more), along with targets, target stands and cleaning...

    Quick Question: Bulge Busting 10mm?

Be careful, as these cases can pass the plunk test and then hang up a 1911 tighter than a bank vault. That’s what happened with my RIA 10mm. And I know they were Glock cases. Spent primers from a Glock have a smiley face pattern in addition to the bulge.

Did anyone change what they carry today?

I haven’t changed the gun, but I’m about to start carrying two extra mags instead of one. My carry is a single stack 9mm. We’ve had several armed robberies of stores by crews of three or four guys. That never used to happen around here.

    5-Screw K-22 Masterpiece

Nice find—especially with a box in really good shape. The boxes are very hard to find.My K22 and box date back to 1946.

Speer 38spl 158 grain JSP data

Yeah, I have Remington.357 JSP and the box says they are running at 1250 fps. It’s the defensive load I use in my 4 inch Model 28.

What revolver do you use for home defense?

In the bedroom, it’s a Staccato 9mm. On the other side of the house, close to the garage is where the Model 28 with 158 gr JSP’s is stashed.

    Carjacking

John Correia had a recent video where a guy in Houston had pulled up at a fast food place to order. Two guys rush in, guns drawn, and order him out of the car. The guy complies, while a third guy is coming in from the opposite side of the car. Some lessons: 1. You may be able to shoot and...

Ever notice this about striker fired pistol trigger reviews?

I’ve fired quite a few striker fired, DA/SA with decocker, 1911’s. Some, like the Storm pistols were awful. Surprisingly, a very good trigger was the M&P 2.0/9 mm.

Goldilocks & 3 bears EDC pistol

We are living in a golden age for concealed carry. There’s a gun for every task, every mode of carry and there’s more every year. After several different guns over many years, the choice that works well for me is a Staccato C. It’s a single stack 9 mm in a 2011 platform. The upper is steel...

    Handgun For Dangerous Game

I carry a Model 28, loaded with Buffalo Bore heavy 357 mag outdoorsman. A 180 gr round doing about 1400 fps. My area has black bears, mountain lions, meth labs and the occasional illegal pot farm.

Looking for care and maintenance for a S&W Model 17

Yep, but since they are basically the same gun, I thought I might get away with chiming in on this thread.

Looking for care and maintenance for a S&W Model 17

My Model 17 dates back to 1946. It had sat in a safe, mostly unfired, for decades so it was a gooey mess inside. For deep cleaning I use an ultrasonic cleaner with the purple Simple Green solution. Thirty minutes at 120 degrees and the gun was as clean as the day it left the factory. For...

    For the lefties

Yep, that’s how I do it. I think what a lefty has to decide is how left handed they are. Except for writing and shooting, I’m ambidextrous and using my right for the speed loaders just seems easier than my left hand.

    For the lefties

Maybe I’m not reading right, but it looks like you have to much movement. You have two hands on the gun. For a reload, I already have the gun in my right hand, so I just use that hands thumb to press the cylinder release. At the same time my left hand is curling under the gun to push the...

Carry choices, such a hard decision

That’s called ‘rolling 4 deep’. And Springfield, the capital of Illinois is no picnic either. I walked out of the Lincoln library/museum to find a guy walking down the other side of the street. He was swinging a baseball bat, cussing about how he was going to %#}{ people up—just a rolling...

Why do people absolutely hate the Chiappa Rhino?

It’s a weird looking gun with some weird controls and feels weird when you shoot it. it has a safety up where the hammer should be. The grip angle just feels wrong to me. And the straight back recoil didn’t impress me. But, my son-in-law likes it! Different strokes for different folks.

The "Best" Semiautomatic for Concealed Carry

The gun I carry meets my needs. It’s a Staccato C, which is the single stack with 8 in the mag and one in the chamber. At 26 ounces it’s comfortable to carry all day. It’s very easy to conceal, and being a 2011 has the same safeties as a 1911. The sights are very good, especially that front...
