A goodly portion of the posters on this thread apparently didn't understand the original premise. It certainly was NOT "9mm vs 45acp". A number of posters posted interesting and on-point responses, and I appreciate those. Many veterans of this forums must see 9mm and 45 in the same sentence and...
NavyLCDR, Sir, I am quite impressed with the DoubleTap numbers. I must say tho that I don't think I could control that ammo, even in a 1911. I have a Colt Delta Elite 10mm, which is a 1911 chambered for 10mm (that was for the lurkers who may not know what a Delta Elite is). My standard hand load...
Mr AethelstanAegen,
I suggest you take a look at the Glock 36 if you wanta stick with 45. It's not as thin as a single-stack 9mm, but it sure seems skinny compared to the G21. I have one I got as PD trade-in and it came with NY-1 trigger. It's somewhere around 8-9 lbs or so, and I am getting...
NavyLCDR, Sir, I am not doubting your numbers, but what weight and velocity 45 would produce 610 Muzzle energy?
I looked at the data on all my Winchester Ranger 45s and could not find a number that big. Working backwards it would require a 185gr bullet in excess of 1200 fps, or a 230 at 1100...
Mr AETH.......
I'm very sorry. There is no such thing as a Glock 15. I knew you guys would keep me straight! I meant Glock 19.
Glock 19, not Glock 15...Glock 19, not Glock 15...Glock 19, not Glock 15...Glock 19, not Glock 15...Glock 19, not Glock 15...Glock 19, not Glock 15...Glock 19...
I meant to include the muzzle energy for 45acp standard velocity. If we assume 850 fps from a 1911, then it would be about 760 from a 3 inch Glock. So the muzzle energy from the 1911 would be about 369 lb-ft2. From the 3 inch bbl, the muzzle energy would be 295 lb-ft2. A 124 Gold Dot at 1150fps...
Well, I'm at least as big a 45 fan as the next guy. But if it doesn't expand, it's actually not as big a wound as the expanded Goldot. And the Gold Dot will reliably expand at velocities as low as about 1000 fps. The tests I have seen that include 45hp indicate that standard velocity 45JHPs...
Before I start, I want to emphasize that I am not reporting on scientifically valid data. These were rather small tests, but they were enough to convince me to avoid short barrel 40S&W and 45acp for carry (45acp is my absolute favorite, BTW-- so that part was difficult)
I did several tests...
357sig
igoodnessi: good luck! 357sig is a fun round.
Just to clarify a point---the 124 GD is for 9m, and the 125 GD is designed for 357sig, with a longer cylindrical ogive. Check the constant diameter portion of the 124GD with your calipers (you DO have calipers, right?) and set the COAL to...
igoodness: You are getting some good hints. One exception to the "don't overcrimp" rule is if you have the Lee Factory Crimp Die. You can't overcrimp with it enough to crumple the case. You can crimp enough to affect accuracy, I have read, but it hasn't been noticeable on my shooting. When I...
357sig reloading
igoodness, benzuncle has said pretty what i was going to say. I also started 357sig without anybody's direction, and I concur that 45acp is a Much Better round to start on--for lots of reasons. The 357sig is a high pressure round and can be unforgiving. I HIGHLY recommend AA#9...
357 sig shoulder issues
The only down side to what we're doing is we are work-hardening the metal in the shoulder. Although I haven't shot enough 357sig to notice a problem, someone concerned about number of reloads per case would need to minimize the shoulder to the very minimum that his...
What's wrong with AR-Stoner mags
OK guys.
The answer to your question and remark is:
1. If you ordered them when they were $10, they were C Products made, with a Magpul follower, and a nice gray color. Really nice and reliable mag. I have 10 of them and couldn't be happier.
2 If you...
What is wrong with the AR-Stoner mags - A TON!
The answer is:
The earlier AR-Stone mags were great. But, after a big selloff when they were marked down by Midwayusa, they changed from a grey body to black. And the spring is different. The spring has HUGE friction on the magazine body and...
Hi Clark,
I've read some reports like that. I don't think I saw Joe's, though. I'm new to the forum.
My analysis was far from conclusive. I just determined for sure that the resized cases I was getting from Lee and/or RCBS dies had the shoulder too far forward for the case mouth to...
I know this is a very old thread, but a subject dear to my heart.
On the subject of shoulder position, my Lee and RCBS sizing dies place the shoulder such that the round headspaces nearly .020" further out than do factory rounds from Speer and Federal. I tried both Lee and RCBS shell holders...
