Although I personally greatly prefer Inertia Recoil autoloaders for their reliability, simplicity and light weight, for shooting light loads I recommend a gas gun. I'm unaware of any new name band gas guns with an MSRP in your price range.

I don't think they're exactly rare, just uncommon. It seems to me that all pistol caliber Marlins are going for close to $1k or more now. But there's a .41 on Gunbroker now.

You want it slightly high at 50. Maybe 1/4". I use the MPBR method using +1/2" at the max, which will be beyond 50.

Mine has trouble keeping all the bullets from going into the same hole. The only bad I can think of is that there's not much in the way of aftermarket accessories, the plastic magazines cost too much, and you can't load them while they're in the rifle.

You might want to recalculate your physics problem and find the error that thinks the rifle recoils forward. But it's no longer a Physics I problem when you throw in muzzle brakes and gases. It's a lot more difficult. Perhaps the rifle is bouncing off your shoulder or something.
