    Hornady reloading manual data low?

I picked up the most recent revision of the Hornady manual and when comparing thier min-max loads for calibers i reload (38/357/44), its significantly lower than the other sources i usually use. Typically i refer to the hodgdon www, accurate www, lyman and speer and they usually corroborate to a...

The folks at RCBS are great!

I recently bought a set of 3 38/357 carbide dies to use with my LnL AP press and upon inspecting the contents, i noticed that they give you a spacer ring that you can use to put under the lock collar to push the entire die up from the preset 38 position to then handle 357 for the same bullet...

Storage for only the finest of firearms

Its not much to look at but the price speaks for itself! http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/645/products_id/4115030 :what:

Scoped rifles don't fit the rack in my safe

How do folks generally get around this? Its just the depth of the scope that doesn't allow the barrel to come anywhere near fitting into the groove on the rack. What i need is a deeper offset barrel rack to accomodate these things. Outside of cutting a piece of wood and carpeting it, is there...

Looking at the AmSec TF 6030: can I do better for the money?

I see that AmSec is well regarded as a good buy for the money but not sure if that holds true for all thier lines. Mostly i see folks referring to the BF series but i am looking at thier less expensive side of the spectrum, the TF series. This one features a 3/16" plate door, 12 ga body, 30...

What are the effects of out of spec cylinder to barrel gap?

In both the cases of too *large* a gap and too *little* a gap? I can imagine some obvious ones such as rubbing and pressure loss but what else is there? Gap too big: pressure/velocity/accuracy loss? Gap too small: rubbing/binding?

why is it so difficult to get carbon off stainless revolvers?

My new smith 686 has only a couple hunded rounds through it and I can't seem to get much carbon off the cylinder, especially the face. I'm just using a patch soaked in mpro7 solvent--what I use for the barrel. Don't want to scrub with anything too abrasive either for fear of perpetually changing...

    Improving the FEG PA63 action

True story! If any of you have/had one of these or have at least handled one stock, the trigger makes a Sigma feel like a custom 1911. The trigger in SA has every negative trait; long, gritty, creepy, and really high resistance. In DA, there are those who do not have the might to even pull it...

Acquired FEG PA-63 in like new condition but feed ramp is like a washboard

I received one up from CDNN the other day in the "like new/test fired" condition and overall its general physical is very clean as advertised. The only thing i notice is that the feed ramp looks like a washboard in that its is actually serrated in appearance rather than the smooth surface...

How is the single action of the Dan Wesson revolvers?

I'm interested in an older DW .357 but have never had the opportunity to see or try one out. This would be just for a range toy so i'm not so concerned about the double action so much as how the single action feels? It may seem like nitpicking but i notice a definite the difference between a 686...

Any online retailers that sell genuine Makarov surplus pistols?

And by sell, i don't mean auctions! I would just like to pick up a genuine Makarov pistol, not a Makarov-esque pistol like the feg, CZ, etc, without all the hassle. I see the FEG, CZ, etc are available at many retailers but not the real deal that i can find at least. Any suggestions?

Transfers: Why the charge when receiving from other dealers but not distributors?

I suppose the first part of understanding this is to know what a transfer actually entails beyond the name. What process goes on during a transfer that is different when a dealer receives a firearm from a distrubutor (no transfer fee) than when receiving one from a non-distributor (extra...

RQOTD: What was retail cost of a Glock 17 in 1985?

Retro Question of the Day :D With Glock being a younger company compared with its American competitors, i'm curious if the cost of thier pistols has gone up/down/level with respect to typical cost factors (ie. inflation, economy, cost of production, etc).

Best vendor to order a surplus P6 from?

I'd like to pick up one of the surplus P6's out there and have noticed quite a few retailers that have them. I see they all are in roughly the same price range and there are varying options (with some charging for options that other throw in for free). But my main concern is that do these units...

Ithaca 37 hard to extract 00 buck and slug shells.

Hi folks, i'm having a problem with a gun that hopefully someone can shed some light on. I recently inherited an older 12-gauge Ithaca 37 with a 28" barrel and took it out for the first time this weekend to test it for functionality after giving it a 100% complete takedown cleaning. I've owned...

    Trigger finger pinch?

I think that's what you might call it--when the skin on the your trigger finger gets caught in-between the trigger and the trigger guard. I noticed this happening on two Hk pistol's i recently tried. One was a rental compact 9mm P2000 and the other was a full size USP .40 cal a friend owns. I...

Best value per dollar handguns in the under $300 range?

I've decided to pick up a few more handguns with my remaining pistol purchase permits and have set some criteria for such. I'm curious to know what options there are out there for the $300 or under range that really give you the best value for your dollar. The guns can be new or used, pistol or...

How to install new light rod in fiber optic sight?

I have a front fiber optic sight on my CZ that uses simple 1mm rod. The actual rod broke (they're delicate i suppose) and i ordered some bulk length to repair it and have some on hand in the future. I noticed that the original one looked sort of peened over somehow probably by heat? How do i...

What apparatus to apply and distribute grease with?

I recently started using grease instead of oil on the sliding points on all my firearms and i've noticed they maintain thier action smoothness much longer now. I am commonly using some cotton swabs to apply grease to all the areas where i apply grease, however, the swabs quickly begin to unravel...

Shooting range turned me away - said i'm a suicide risk!

So the scoop is i'm out here in the Seattle area on a business trip for a little while and I'm all by myself in terms of representing my company so i have no other collegues to drag along with me after work duties are done for the day. Due to obligations, travel and such, it has been a couple...
