    GP100 vs SW 686

    Either is a great revolver. You can't make a bad decision choosing between the two. I prefer the SW686. Why? 1. I 'smith on my revolvers and I know S&W guts, so I stick with S&W (J, K, L, N-frames). 2. Grip & holster selection 3. Build/finish quality 4. S&W pro shop for things I don't want...

    Crimson Trace customer service?

I would jump on Carly's offer of 50% off CT grips like a duck on a June bug. AND go for the screws, too. I have found that CT laser grips generally outlast even the best tritium night sights (unless you are dragging your pistol through the muck like an infantryman). Which is their best use...

anybody care to recommend a holster for CC of a SW 686+ 3"?

El Paso Saddlery Tortilla OWB. I have EPS Tortillas for my 626 4" and a couple 1911s. Good gear. Mate it with a good double-thick 1.5" or 1.75" wide gun belt and speed loader carriers. https://epsaddlery.com/product/77-tortilla-holster/

Are you "Gun Amish?" Or do you have a Red Dot on your pistol?

For all y'all whose eyes have NOT aged like fine wine, maybe you started life NEARsighted with astigmatism, and later in life picked up FARsightedness...there are solutions to get a sharp front sight post without resorting to a RDS. 1. TRIFOCALS (of variousconfigurations) Essentially, bifocals...

    Empty Handed Training

FTR: I have TKD, Okinawan karate, Japanese JJ, kickboxing, wrestling, Brazilian JJ, and cheesy US Army combatives experience. All a couple/few years a piece over a couple decades. Were I a kid / young person just starting out, I would suggest (in this order): 1. Wrestling. No beter place to...

This. Plus, if your follower is plastic, buy a shiny new metal one.

    Shotgun for "ranch rifle"

A 20ga shotgun that you already own sounds just dandy. I might play with some turkey loads to "reach out & touch" with pellets at distance. And slugs for big stuff. Unless you have to go over 100 yards, a shotgun can;t be beat for utility.

Are you "Gun Amish?" Or do you have a Red Dot on your pistol?

    1. Don't waste your time listening to the the him. He lacks integrity. Were he to claim the sun rose in the east, I would double-check on general principle. There are much better yootoob gungrifters to watch at 2x playing speed until they get to the dang point. 2. Where I live, it is too hot...

    Shoulder holster or cross draw

Ditto on the shoulder issues. I have moved strong side OWB & IWB a bit forward to ~3 O'clock, but I had, even before shoulder issues, acquired cross-draw & shoulder holster options for my preferred CCWs. So I do have a few lessons learned. GENERAL BAD SHOULDER CCW LESSONS LEARNED 1. If you...

    Fighting Revolver

    1. Folks are quibbling about what sort of "fight" would a fighting revolver be used for: CC, SD, HD, war, etc. 2. I would stipulate that they be double action (not necessarily DAO, though). 3. I am focusing on S&W, but there are Rugers, Colts and even Tauruses (Tauri?) that could be...

    Rail Light or Handheld?

ASSSUMING HOME DEFENSE WITH PISTOL 1. Hand held > WML 2. 100 lumens is about tops for a HD light, weapon-mounted or otherwise. ======== WML ADVANTAGES: APPLICABLE FOR HD? Let me get the WML advantages out of the way, first. Yes, in shoot houses & especially outside at longer ranges...

    Which .40 for carry?

I'm your huckleberry. Kel-Tec P-40 .40S&W. It is the scary tatted up biker aunt of the shiny new micro-9mm crowd. Hammer-fired, double-stack, but 15oz or so unloaded. 9+1 capacity of .40S&W goodness and you best slap it around, show it who's wearing the pants, and give it a firm hand or...

Remington 1100 21ga Magnum Barrel: Fits Standard 1100 Receiver?

That makes sense. Still, good for 2 3/4" heavy game loads (maybe), and full power buck & slugs, then. Thanks for the help.

Remington 1100 21ga Magnum Barrel: Fits Standard 1100 Receiver?

Do Remington 1100 Magnum (3") barrels work with Rem 1100 standard (2 3/4") receivers? The Rem 870 magnum barrels sure do seem to work on my 870 standard receivers without any issues. But I have never disassembled and examined an 1100 magnum and compared it with the standard length receiver...

    Recoil reducers

D'oh! Correct. I will apologize to my 870 wingmasters this evening. The receiver and wood are just so well finished my mind turned to wingmasters contemporaneous with my 1100. Slow? Not so much. I like the way mine swings with its light PLAIN 26" bbl. Changes the character of the gun...

    Recoil reducers

A5 Solution: I have found the hydraulic recoil reducing mechanisms on shotguns to work for me. YMMV. Good luck. Cheapest Solution: Sell your A5 and buy a used Remington 1100 Wingmaster. You'll get the recoil reduction you seek from mass and gas operation without having to add mass to a...

    38 special defensive loads

Most .38/.357 hollow points need high 900s to 1000fps to reliably work as HP (open up/mushroom/etc.) For 158gr JHP/SJHP/leadHP, that means not only +P pressures from a 2" bbl .38spl, but BuffBore/Underwood/boutique nuke load .38spl+P. Some hand load manuals approach that, but not many...
