Looking for recommendations - good gunsmith/machinist

I've got a 17hm2 rimfire barrel that is unusable due to a feed ramp cut into the chamber that causes every casing to burst. It's a custom barrel and I'm wanting to salvage it by boring and press fitting/bonding a ring of stainless into it, and then re-cutting the chambe. They may not even need...

Ruger American Ranch - What rings?

Talk to me about rings for this rifle -- what did you choose and why? I've not bought a set of rings in a long while and need recommendations. I'll probably stick with a either an illuminated LPVO (1-6x24 or so, 30mm tube) or a classic 2-7x33 Redfield scope.

In search of a couple 0.315 round balls

For slugging a couple 30 caliber rifle bores. I'd be interested in purchasing a few pure lead balls from someone who has them on hand. I don't want to have a whole box on hand since I don't have a 32 muzzleloader. Or maybe I just can use this for an excuse to buy a 32? Haha... PM me if you...

DIY Lee Turret lighting upgrade. What a difference!

This morning I was loading some reduced loads at about 40% density using red dot, and since the "dot" powders occasionally bridge and fail to throw on my pro auto disk, I check each case for the proper charge. I got weary of having to remove the case each time to inspect the powder charge under...

Lee bullet seating die cap with seating depth markings - Any interest for group buy?

I'm planning making one that has markings for bullet seating depth adjustment and is easily transferable between die sets. It would be rather simple, and would help with taking (most of) the guesswork out of making changes to cartridge overall length. Would anyone be interested in one? I'm...

Storage of Lee turret with dies installed

I've always just left my dies set up in the turrets and stored them laying on the bench. I got tired of how sloppy it looked, so I drew up and printed out these holders. They sit level on a bench or wall mount with screws. Much better!

Observations after 4 years of absence on the forums

My hobbies often swing between rifles and cars. I was living in the city and going to graduate school for the last 2 years so I got an old turbo diesel Benz to work on in (I left my reloading equipment behind when I moved), leaving me quite AWOL from all the gun boards. That said, I'm back...

    Thinking on a CZ 527

I'm thinking I'll get it in 223 (Although 7.62x39 sounds pretty cool too...), but torn between the different models. I'm thinking it will be used for general plinking, target shooting and a lot of casual varmint hunting. I'm wanting opinions on the 24 inch barrel Lux, the 22 inch barrel...

    Not crying over spilled milk...

Is pretty easy in this modern world of plenty (we are blessed, are we not?). Not crying over spilling half a canister of Lil' Gun is a lot harder! Especially when it is your last pound. I'm almost in a state of depression right now. If I could go to my LGS and get another, my attitude...

Convert cheap Pietta 1858 into carbine?

has anyone ever done it? Octagonal barrel blanks are fairly cheap, so it seems like it could be easily threaded for the frame of the revolver. Make a wood stock and you have a sweet little carbine for under ~400. Thoughts?

Finally had a reloading session -- after a 2 year drought!

Life's been busy, but I've finally gotten my priorities straight! Yesterday I cast several hundred bullets of different types, and today I loaded some 357 magnum. 100 cartridges with a Lee 158 RF Cast over 13.5 grains of 2400, one of my pet loads. :D

Centering a hammer - Hawken rifle

My hammer hits towards the outside of the nipple about 1/16 inch too far towards the outside of the gun. It rarely causes problems, but I'd like to get it resolved. What's the easiest way to center the hammer on the nipple?

Strange flintlock for sale in Los Angeles - Can we identify it?

First, What is this thing? http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/atq/3308141556.html Second, someone in the L.A. area should go pick it up and fix it and then show us all the pictures!

I shot my Pietta 1858 Army, after being left loaded since summer of 2008.

And after 4 years, all six chambers fired off without a hitch. There was no rust or any other damage after breaking it down and inspecting it. I will not hesitate to leave the chambers loaded for extended periods of time. I also got to shoot my new 1851 Navy. It's a joy to handle and...

    Hawken update!

I shot my rifle again tonight after replacing the front sight. I shot 5 patched round balls with 80 gr of American Pioneer, followed by one 320 gr REAL with 100gr of AP. Then it got dark at 7pm. I guess it's not summer anymore. Results: Much better! I didn't even have to...

Shot my Hawken rifle for the first time tonight, ran into an issues.

I finally got out and put some lead downrange with my newly acquired and restored Hawken rifle. Everything seemed to function correctly, except that it was shooting extremely low. I adjusted the rear sight all the way up to the point of it almost falling off (and looking gay), and it's still...

Thinking about grabbing a used Hawkens rifle:

This one. http://fresno.craigslist.org/for/3228921203.html I talked him down to $60, good deal if the bore is decent? I have a remington 1858 reproduction, and it's tons of fun, and I've been itching for a smokepole (isn't everyone? some folks just don't know it yet  )

Looking for an Enfield MkIII Barrel

For converting a Carcano for 7.62x39. If anyone has one they want to part with, I can help you out. :D I'll also have a 7.35x51 Carcano barrel I'll be willing to let go for almost free as soon as I have an Enfield barrel to replace it.

Identify this Rifle -- I've never seen anything like it...

I've been approached with the option to purchase this gun for cheap. The seller doesn't know anything about rifles, and but just inherited it. He said it was "missing the top piece" ..... turns out he meant the bolt. :D All he says he knows is that it is "35 caliber and built in 1959"...
