Do the Ruger Alaskan's have any type of internal locking mechanism? (specifically the .480 Ruger Alaskan, as I don't trust internal gun locks)
E.g. any type of internal lock like on the newer S&W's and the
Ruger Vaqueros?
.44 Magnum 4" S&W 329 (27oz)
.454 Casull 2.5" Ruger Alaskan (41oz)
.480 Ruger 2.5" Ruger Alaskan (41oz)
I had all but decided to get the S&W 329 for some backpacking in Montana/Wyoming and later Alaska, but now I'm wondering if an extra 14oz would be worth moving up to a bigger & faster...
I'm interested in getting a S&W 329PD in .44Mag for hiking & backpacking, and will probably pair it up with a Marlin 1894 .44 Mag 20" lever-action. This seems like the perfect pair.
Has anyone shot a 329PD (26oz) with full-power .44Mag loads? If so, how manageable was it? I've shot a 340...
I've got a chance to do some night hog hunting, but Im having a tough choice deciding which gun to take.
1) AR15 carbine .223 w/ Aimpoint ML2 Redot and Surefire Tac light (on front of gun).
2) Remington 700LTR .308 w/ Aimpoint ML2 Redot OR Leupold 4-14x40 Scope, No light.
