Emailed Remington about accuracy issues, let’s see what they say..

Since you are already thinking about a new trigger, look at the Timney Calvin Elite. Pull the firing pin assy out of the bolt and look at the spring. Look here and figure if you might want to replace it. http://www.davidtubb.com/speedlock-assembly-700-long...

lessons from the fallout from the last 8 years - and some humor

I find it to be a stress reliever to do endless load development. Same rifle many combinations, find a good one, verify it, then move on to the next rifle for awhile. Rotate accordingly. I just got into pistol reloading, naturally, I needed a used Dillon 550 to do it with. Then I needed some...

300 Blackout, Should I add one to my collection?

I have an AR pistol in .300, an AAC M700, and a single shot .300 BO barrel for an AR; when I get around to building it. I'd say, why deprive yourself of the experience. They are accurate, light recoiling, and are what they are. With the AAC, I'm getting just at an inch at 160 yards with 110gr...

    257 Roberts won't group

Change up components. I seem to think I was using Fed GMM primers at the time with the charge weights below. Work up! Set up a dummy round to find the lands, your rifle may shoot better at jam rather than jump. That Berger load was at 2.845, and is a hammer in mine. 38-38.5 IMR 4831, 115...

    280 Remington

I use IMR4831, BR2, and 162 AMAX in an old Tikka .280. Works like a charm, it's a very accurate rifle. I have another built one in an 8 twist, that all I've done so far is a bit of barrel break in. It shows a lot of potential.

New Remington 700 M40 Sniper model

I think Remmy QC is hit and miss, maybe the difference between Monday and Friday rifles; and. those built on other days. Seems like mid 90s to nearly mid 2000s are reasonable. Most anything from the custom shop gets better scrutiny. However, some of the actions I've seen in the past year or two...

Advice wanted on picking out a new varmint rifle.

Go with the Swift. As a handloader, you can get accurate loads, that don't necessarily need to be highest speed. I have a M70 CRF, that started life as a 7mm08; it is now a 220 Swift. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again either. Ruger #1s on gunbroker right now in 220 Swift. I've already come...

Buy, build, or upgrade 6.5 caliber hunter?

I'd go with a 6.5 Creedmoor. Simply because most have 1:8 twist barrels, and a good rep for shooting factory ammo well. I'd opt for a/the 5 round magazine though if you go with the Tikka. Look at Bergara rifles also, they have good reviews as well. Both have stable stocks. I'd look at Zeiss...

    Custom Rifle Build...On the Cheap?

Whichever way you go, I think you'll still be around $800-$900 into it, prob more. Got to count shipping and gas money. FFL transfer cost, if buying other than local. Also, you'll need a reamer, if the smith doesn't have one; or the barrel supplier/chamberer. And headspace gauge. You can...

    New Montana Rifle Company x2

If you're not happy, that's what matters. If it bugs you that much, see what the company has to say about it. I have several the some casting or machining visible. I'm more concerned with how they shoot and function. Please post the same pic with the bolt closed, for a comparison.

    Remington 700 Trigger Issue.

Whatever trigger you use, you can always keep. If you were to sell the rifle, just put the original back in. I'd look closely at the Timney Calvin Elite. It may cost a bit more; but they are really nice.

    Custom Rifle ideas

Those actions still pop up from time to time. MGW was selling a few, a few on forums once and awhile. Most aftermarket goodies support the Remington footprint. Winchester, not so much, same but less. I've been looking at Bighorn actions off and on. http://bighornarms.com/product/sr2-action/...

Share your Portuguese Model 70 experiences.

I had an ultimate shadow in 7mm08. It was one of the first ones. Good bluing, accurate. It is now a 220 Swift. Had another in stainless, 25-06. It was an extreme weather, it seems like... Never shot it. It is now a 260 Remington. I wish Winchester would sell just actions. Probably be a...

Winchester model 70 date of manufacture?

When FN took over, they started using that type of serial number. The "Winchester" serials were G prefix. I have one with 35EZW that's 3 or so years old, early Portugal assembly. You could prob go to customer service and find out.

How do you feel about a Laser on an AR...?

I have 2 green lasers, both on AR pistols. I shoot both from the hip, waist, chest high. As long as good trigger control is used, they hit where the dot is. The beauty of these, is that you have awareness of where the bullet impact should be, and both your eyes are freed up to take in more of...
