I am thinking about buying a black rifle, but have never owned one before. Under consideration is a Double Star and an S&W M&P 15. I have a lot of experience with S&W handguns, so I feel pretty good about their products. But I really don't know anything about Double Star rifles. Any thoughts?
If you are shooting clay targets, then the choke you need depends on how far away the target is. The optimum pattern is about 30 inches in diameter. A cylinder choke will produce that pattern at a very close range. A full choke will not. It requires a longer distance for the pattern to open up...
I bought an SBEII because it would chamber 3 1/2 inch shells. I have put nearly a thousand rounds through it. And every single one was 2 3/4. What was I thinking?
I use only Pachmyer Decelerators on my shotguns. IMHO, they are the best. If you shoot low gun, then get the sporting clays model. It has a small piece of hard plastic at the top of the pad that prevents it from hanging up when you mount the gun. Once mounted, a sticky pad keeps the gun in...
I agree with much of the above. The CZ is a Turkish Huglu. Their reputation for quality is spotty. (Moderators, please note how polite I was there). Firing pin breakage in Huglus is legendary.
Buy a good quality used gun. Buy a sportning, not a field O/U. Brands to look for would include...
If you are going to use the gun, I would keep the 1100. Both are proven designs. Both are great guns. But, any gunsmith can work on an 1100 and parts are readily available. You can easily get other barrels, choke tubes, and just about any thing else for an 1100.
I put 300 rounds of WWB through a pistol one day. Upon returning home, I immediately sat down to clean it because I knew it would be a mess. Frankly, I was amazed at how clean it was. For the money, I just don't see how you can beat Wally World's WWB.
I have a PPK/S and a J frame. Frankly, I don't see much difference in the recoil. But I am more accurate with the Walther. It has better sights. Of course, I'm not sure that makes much difference in the typical self defense situation. My Walther is heavier and while I like to carry it in my back...
I have a Ruger P-95 and I have nearly a thousand rounds through it. I have to say that it has been absolutely reliable. I have never had any type of jam or misfeed. Not one. I have pumped lots of different ammo types through it and it runs like a top. For the money, it is really hard to beat.
I'd give the M&P a hard look. In the first place you are under estimating barrel length. Remember that a revolver barrel length never includes the cylinder. But in a automatic, the round is in the barrel, while in a revolver it's not. So to be accurate, you really need to add the cylinder length...
I'm in Mecklenburg county. I took the class the first week of August. Then I had to make an appointment to apply for the license. That was about three weeks, so late August-early September. I got my license on Oct. 23.
