Replaced Springs on My 642. Not impressed.

The pull is smooth after doing lots of dry firing with the original springs. I was hoping to lighten it up a bit, and used the spring weights that others had suggested. Maybe I just need to break them in with more dry firing.

Replaced Springs on My 642. Not impressed.

I bought the Wolff spring kit for my S&W 642 more than a year ago. Today I finally made the switch. I put on the 14# trigger return spring and the 8# hammer spring. It doesn't seem like it eased the trigger pull at all. In fact, it seems like it may have increased it. The original springs had at...

    SP101 trigger

Here is an excellent guide to doing a trigger job on your SP101. It is surprisingly easy and very effective at smoothing and reducing the trigger. http://www.teslamap.com/public/sp101_trigger_job/index.html Before doing the above trigger job to my own gun, I did 1000 dry firings. I did...

    Which .38 Snub

You didn't say how you planned to carry it. On a belt? Or in a a pocket. Pocket carry would eliminate the Ruger SP101 for most. If belt carry, the weight SP101 isn't so noticeable, but will soak up recoil when you need it. For pocket carry, I'd go with the 642 or the LCR.

What 38 Special load to use in Ariweight?

Most people are going to recommend +P Speer Gold Dots Short Barrel. It's practically impossible to find. About $20/20. Corbon DPX is probably as effective, easier to find, but about $30/20. To me, DPX has a bit less recoil. For a non +P round, I'd feel confident with wadcutters.

CCW in PA During Hunting Season?

I don't hunt, but do spend a great deal of time in the woods year 'round. Recently I've come across a couple of mentions that it is only legal to CCW a revolver suitable for hunting in the woods in PA whether one is hunting or not. As I understand it, this is a new law. Anyone know the facts?

    Conceal Carry: Glock or J-frame

I'm temped to recommend a J-frame. Know that they are difficult to shoot accurately at distance, though. As for me, I am okay with this, and with the 5 round limitation. A J-frame is very easy to pocket carry. A Glock, not so much.

Trail Gun: SP101 3" vs. the new 4.2"

I'm also trying to decide between the 3" and 4." I'm not planning to use it for hunting, though. If I were, I'd definitely be going with the 4" (actually it's 4.2.")

    3" vs. 4" for Concealment?

I live in a relatively crime-free rural area and lead a low key mostly boring life so I'm happy carrying a j frame in the pocket. I'm now looking for a house gun and have decided on a Ruger SP101 as it fits my hand perfectly. (The GP100 and 686 are just a bit too big.) As it's going to be a...

    3" 38/357 Realistic as a Starter?

I don't think there is a better handgun for home defense (at least for most people) than a 4" .357 loaded with .38 +P. The last person I helped with a purchase chose the GP100.

If you HAD both, which would you carry? 642 or PF-9?

I have a P11 and a P32. Both have been great. My PF9 was a real disappointment. I tried everything I could in hopes of reliability. (Two handed shooting was mostly fine. One handed gave me fits. After spending more in ammo than I paid for the gun, I gave up. Perhaps the fault is not the gun...

Easiest ammo for S&W 642 practice.

The absolute easiest bullet to shoot and with NO recoil are wax bullets. My computer won't allow me to make links so you'll have to cut and paste: http://www.gunfighter.com/waxbullets/ Wax bullets are quiet enough that they don't require hearing protection and you can practice in your garage...

    anybody pocket carry CCW? (legally)

XavierBreath-- He was referring to the original poster--not you. And it's not even clear that the op doesn't use a belt. He just says he hates belts--not that he doesn't use one. Anyway-- the op will discover he at least needs a belt for pocket carry if using a even a lightweight revolver. As...

Anyone have 642 with inaccurate sights?

The sights on my 642 are definitely off. Sometimes they shoot high. Sometimes low. Sometime left and sometimes right. Maybe those sights are made from rubber. It COULDN'T be me. :)

SW 642 vs Ruger LCP .380

I like the 642, but both are good guns. I'd get her the one she shoots best. Neither will fire as long as she keeps her finger (and other stuff) off the trigger. If they are in a holster, they will not go bang.

    SW 637 (38) vs. Ruger SP101

For a house gun, I'd definitely go for the Ruger. Actually, though, I'd go with something even heavier (such as the GP100) for a house gun. In PA, both of those guns (if new) would be a little over $400.
