    Marlin Model 90 O/U

I own sixteen Model 90's in all gauges, including a couple of Pre-WWII Sears Ranger branded model 90's and a 12 ga. made in 1950 that my dad bought for me in 1957. For nearly 50 years it was my "go to" upland gun until I got my first 16 ga. model 90. None of mine are loose and all lock up...

Trap - I've hit a wall in scores @ 21 avg; any tips to break through

Ghost Ring Sights are for aiming at a stationary target. Not suited at all for shooting clays where one should be focusing on the moving target instead of the shotgun barrel and sight.

Trap - I've hit a wall in scores @ 21 avg; any tips to break through

Those straight away birds are still rising so with a standard field gun you may be shooting under them if POI is 50/50 with POA. Maybe it is time to invest in a "trap" gun. Trap guns have a straighter stock that will tend to make the gun shot a little high (pattern at 60/40 or 70/30).

Paul No. 3, Great story. Reminds me of a story my late father-in-law told about peppering a guy he caught running his traps when my father-in-law was a teenager living in central Kentucky in the late 1890's. The other gun with a very personal connection to my dad, who passed away last year...

Handloader357, Your story about your model 12 is very familiar to me. My dad bought a used 12 ga. Marlin model 90 O/U for me when I was 14. He cut 3/4" off the stock to fit me and then added a piece back from another stock when I got bigger. I still have the gun. The wood insert doesn't...

Got a reply back from Wheeling Cabelas that it has been sold. Not surprised because the listing price was not out of line given how rare it is. Just as well, not sure I could afford to shoot it given the price of .218Bee ammo. (About $80 for a box of 50 when it is available)

Couldn't find it on their web site, so I sent the Wheeling Cabelas an email asking if it is still available. Probably have to take out a second mortgage to afford it!

drcook, I appreciate your comments. However, I describe them as an "accumulation" of Model 90's since I consider all of them "shooters," even the Skeetking. I have "accumulated" a total of 15 Marlin, Ranger and JC Higgins Model 90's over the years, of which 7 are 16 ga. (all shooters). My...

Mavracer, Your suggestion to take dad's 20 ga. Model 37 out shooting on dad's birthday each year and then my brother and I take turns taking it home is a good one. My brother lives in California, I live in Virginia and our sister lives in Illinois. Maybe we let her keep it, and we all...

Drcook, Thanks. While not as nice as your model 37's, this is my 1951 Ithaca 37 This is my dad's 1949 20 ga Model 37 that he used to teach my brother, my sisters and me to wing shoot. Dad bought it new and put a Weaver choke on it shortly after he got it. Our dad died last year...

Thanks! According to a daughter of the original owner, it was a gift to her dad from a family friend, Ole Horsrud, a gunsmith who held the original patent (assigned to Sears) for the gun that was was sold by Sears as the Ranger 103.xx prior to WWII (JC Higgins 103.xx after the war) and by...
