Yeah, .20" patches would make it difficult. :) Some competition shooters use larger than normal balls and patch combos that require using a mallet to seat the ball. I use a thick patch moistened by mouth and get good results at 75 yards.

My Lee .575 minie ball mold casts the ball a little large, it's really hard to fit into the barrel of my Euroarms '63 repro. I use 50 grains of FFg/Pyrodex RS/Triple 7 with a patched roundball, they all have the same accuracy.

Powder, Inc. sells lots as small as 5 lbs, you can mix and match the different powders, so you could get 2 lbs of Triple 7, a pound of Swiss, a pound of Olde Eynsford, and another pound of whatever.

I bet the problem is caused by using Pyrodex. Try it with Triple 7 or regular BP before you drill anything.

Watch out for the salt and other chemicals they use to cure it. It might cause rust. I use pure lard as the base for my lubes, sometimes you have to watch out for salt in it, too.

Real blackpowder tastes a lot better. :)

My R&D cylinders for my Remington and my Ruger will take cartridges loaded with 200 grain round nose (Lee mold), 200 grain flat nose (Lee mold), or store bought 255 grain flat nose with no problems.
