    6.5x55 help needed

Varget has served me well in the 6.5 x 55 for several years. I am currently using 37 grains under a 120 gr Nosler Ballistic tip

    Cleaning Stones

I would spray the stones down with a liberal dose of WD-40 and then take and set them on the magnetic chuck of the surface grinder and turn it on. I would lightly stone the magnetic chuck while using the magnet to draw all of the steel particles out of the stone. However, this would not get non...

The absolute worst part of reloading is...

Worst part The worst part is to push out the one grain of walnut shell that sticks in the flash hole. I know that I could tumble first and then decap, and most times I do, but when I decap first I always feel like I waste a ton of time poking out the media. Once, I started to reprime before I...

    6.5 x 55 and Hodgdon Benchmark

Thanks you guys! I'll probably stick with IMR3031 or Alliant RL22. Manitou

    6.5 x 55 and Hodgdon Benchmark

Have any of you guys seen any loading data for Hodgdon Benchmark and the venerable 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser? I checked the Hodgdon website, and I couldn't find anything that paired the two together. Are this powder and cartridge a good match? Is the burn rate suited to a low pressure medium...

    Trimming Lapua Brass

Jaywalker, First I measure a case to make sure that it's to long. (Sometimes they're just right or slightly short) Then I set up so that I just barely take a little shaving off of the case. Then it's just as you said, trim check, trim check, trim check. The adjusting screw on my trimmer (and...

    Trimming Lapua Brass

Jaywalker, I just measured my cases (Rem, Win, and nny) and the Rem's measured about .4735, the Win's measured about .4745, and the nny's measured about .4790. Then I went and pulled the collet out of my Forsters to see which one I had in. It was stamped #1. So I put the collet back in the...

    Trimming Lapua Brass

Jaywalker, Sorry to stray from the original topic. I have trimmed American brass (WIN and REM) in my Forster trimmer. I have also trimmed the old Yugoslavian brass with the headstamp nny 6.5 x 55 that was sold as Hansen brass in the early '90's. All of these types of brass haven't been a...

    Trimming Lapua Brass

WildAleaskaMan (Lodge Brother of the Swede), Maybe your crimp has something to do with differing velocities? I don't own a chrony (yet), so I can't vouch for the velocity on any loads that I shoot. I just have to go with the published data velocity. Barrel length makes things interesting. I...

    projectiles-heads-tips-huh?

I've heard it the most coming out of New Jersey (although mostly Northern NJ). The most populus state in the nation is sadly the place who has the most people who 1) know everything....... 2) know nothing........ 3) know nothing but think they know everything....... 'ey, Carmine, pass me...

    Trimming Lapua Brass

I love to read posts about the 6.5 x 55 Swedish mauser. It was the first cartridge that I ever loaded for. I don't have any modern rifles in this caliber, just model 96 Carl Gustav's. We all know their reputation, but they aren't quite as robust as modern guns, and I load them accordingly. In...

    Rather basic question

Yes, I'm going to try 44 grains of Reloader 22 with a 140 grain Sierra SPBT. That's the starting load in the Speer Data in my One Book/ One Caliber load book for 6.5 x 55. Other manufacturers in the book (Nosler and Sierra) show this a s a mid range load.

    Rather basic question

Thanks for all of you replies, I knew that i'd get a lot of imformation that I wouldn't have thought about on my own. I guess it's back to trying lots of powders, as long as I am safe.

    Rather basic question

Then, would it be more advantageous to have the pressure peaking as the bullet leaves the barrel than somewhere more closer to the breech? (not that this would be easily discernable from powder burn rate charts). If this is true (and I don't doubt you) than twist rate, barrel length, and bore...

    Rather basic question

I've been loading for 10 or 12 years, and have gotten much better accuracy with my handloads than any factory ammo. I've mostly loaded for rifles, with 6.5x55 ,30-06, .270, 30-30, and .22 Sav Hi Power, being some of the cartriges I've loaded. I've generally stayed with IMR powders, but have been...

What's wrong with surplus Indian .308?

I have heard (heresay again) that this ammo was once linked ammo. During the de-linking process, some of the bullets were bent, canted, or made loose, and this contributed to the quality problems. Combine that with other known Indian quality issues, and well, "You get what you pay for". We all...

    What are they?

What about this Moly-Fusion product that I've been hearing about? Some say it's great and others say it's snake oil. Anybody use it and with what results?

    Labels

Reloading labels I made some reloading labels in Word format. I put 9 on a sheet. You can fill them out in Word, or print a blank sheet of them and fill them out with a pen. I printed out 3 or 4 sheets, cut them up and put a rubber band around them and threw them into one of my reloading...
