What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

Steve, I just use magnets out of failed hard drives to hold my tools. They are neodymium magnets. Of course the have to be on something steel or iron, like a strong mount. No muss, no fuss. No drilling , just stick 'em where you want your tools. If you want to attach to aluminum or...

    BAR Short Trac

Not wanting to offend anyone, mine was reliable, just inaccurate as hell. Superficial resemblance to 742 inside, similar rotating bolt, etc. Was a beautiful gun, got my money back out of it.

    First Blown Primer...... WHOA

50+ years handloading, never had one go off. Someone mentioned Federal primers, I know some brands are more sensitive than others. Don't think I have ever used Federals, if I did it was only a few til I could get some Cascade Cartridge primers.

    BAR Short Trac

I bought a BAR years ago at a pawn shop. I took it apart to clean it and inside it looked exactly like a Remington 740/742. Memory not what it was, but I believe it was a 270 Win. Beautiful gun, shot horribly. Dumped it.

Alcoholics 7 year sobriety = wife approved 7MM

I have a SAKO FinnBear. Been shooting it for close to 50 years. Still shoots ½" or better. If I were buying to day I would try to find a TC Icon in 7mm Rem mag. with a floorplate. They stopped making them a few years ago but they deliver. I have 3 in various calibers and all shoot ½" or...

entry level bolt action opinions wanted

The recall was for a problem with the safety. There were some? that when the bolt was actioned would cause the safety to move off. Still would not fire with out pulling the trigger. I have 3, never seen it happen on any of them. I sent one back for other reasons , didn't want the risk of...

What's your expectation when you buy a rifle with an accuracy guarantee?

I've had several. The only ones that delivered were TC Icon's. Remington 700 pos, psp or something like that would shoot under an inch only with bullets seated too long for the magazine. Very, very, very excessive free bore. POS!!! I have 3 Icons, all deliver. One shot less than 1\2" at 200...

Accuracy issue with Rem. 700 SPS

700 I had one in 308, sps or something like that. heavy barrel. glass bedded, trigger job, recrowned. wouldn't group unless you seated bullets too long for the magazine; very, very excessive freebore. Dumped it, got a Patrol Bolt rifle, trigger job, similar story, got a TC Icon. Shot sub half...

avoiding ear damage with powerful rifles

My hearing doctor says part of the damage is caused by concussion, no hearing protection works against that. Plugs and muffs do help, but understand that big guns are going to do damage regardless. Too late for me.

    Sako, Sako or no?

I bought a 7 mag Finnbear about 1967 or so. Shot 5/8" out of the box. Still shoots about the same. No mods, just like I got it. Been hunting with it every year. I just checked my records; last fall shot a .446" checking over for deer season. When I am serious that's what I carry to the...

Anyone enjoy reloading as much or more than shooting?

I've been "handloading" (prefer that to reloading) since I was 21. I still enjoy it, but don't care for case prep. Got the RCBS ultra case prep thing. That really helps. One thing I didn't do real good at first was record keeping. THIS IS ESSENTIAL!!! Now I write it all down, group size...

    Cabelas calipers

Harbor Freight & Starrett I have 2 Harbor Freight; seem identical to more expensive brands. They work fine. I bought a 50 year old Starrett dial at a yard sale for $1. Like new. Box beat up but inside pristine. I trust it a little more than the digitals.

    9mm: is crimping always necessary

Miss anything? No, but your life will be simpler with the Lee FCD. I loaded successfully for a long time with a 2 to 3 per cent rejection rate. Due I believe to range brass from old glocks. Yes it is possible to load without the Lee FCD. I have no quarrel with anyone who doesn't use one...
