Why choose an LCR over a J-frame?

I've had two 38 spl LCRs , a standard 2" barrel and an LCR-X with a 3" barrel. I've sold both of them. I liked the trigger pulls but they could be short stroked. Both Rugers twisted a lot when using jacketed bullets over 125 grains, perhaps caused by a tight barrel. . The trigger itself had...

Why do people absolutely hate the Chiappa Rhino?

There's a guy around here who uses a Chiappa Rhino in IDPA Revolver division. He is very fast and very accurate with it. I'd like to try shooting one but I'm not in the market for another wheelgun right now.

USPSA Production shooters who reload, simple question..

Unfortunately, Rocky Mountain Reloading no longer sells their 135gr flat point 9mm bullet. The only other 135 gr. jacketed or plated 9mm bullet I'm aware of is from Berry's bullets and they are sold out and on backorder.

    147gr less perceived blast/sound than 115gr?

There is less muzzle blast because there is lmuch ess powder under a 147gr. 9mm bullet than a 115 gr. Sound is also a little lower because standard pressure 147gr. rounds are sub-sonic.

Trail Boss powder 38/357 revolver "quiet" yard loads

According to Hodgdon's Annual Manual, the .38 spl. starting load of Trail Boss with a Hornady 140 gr. "Cowboy" bullet is 3.0 grains. The maximum load is 3.7 gr. and has a pressure of only13,400 psi. There is no .357 magnum data for Trail Boss and this bullet. Hodgdon also does not list any...

Thoughts on a mid priced 1911 in .45?

A Dan Wesson A2 .45 acp is available at Bud's Gun Store for $1,208. IMHO, it would be money well spent. https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/24820/dan+wesson+01946+1911+single+45+acp+5+8%2b1+walnut+grip+blued

    Length of Berry's 9mm 124 grain HBRN-TP?

Looking at the Berry's website, it appears that the nose of the 124gr flat base and the nose of the 124gr hollow base are identical. Therefore, I would load both to the same OAL. Why? If the noses of both bullets are the same shape, the volume of the both bullets inside the case should also...

FMJ vs plated bullets for .45 acp

For 230 grain bullets, use Vihtavouri N-310 or Clays. For 200 gr LSWC Bullets use American Select or WST.

    Unique & 38 Spl+P

According to the 2004 Alliant Manual, 4.5 gr Unique is the maximum load for 38 spl. +P with a 158 gr. LSWC. I'd stick to this load in your Colt revolver. If you need more velocity, go to a slower powder.

Which Single Stack 9mm do you EDC?

Ruger LC9s-pro with Williams Fire Sights, a hand-all grip cover, and a Laser-Max laser. It's been 100% reliable at the range and carries well.

Looking to try a new powder for .38 specials.

Alliant promoted American Select as primarily a clean burning shotgun powder but recognized it has several applications in target and mid-rnage loads for semi-autos and revolvers. Here is the Alliant 2004 Manual which shows the max load for .38 spl LSWC is 4.3 gr. of American Select...

Looking to try a new powder for .38 specials.

Try American Select, an Alliant flake powder that is between Bullseye and Unique in burn rate. Benefits include good load density, clean burning, cool burning (less that 2% nitroglycerine), low smoke with lead and virtually no smoke with coated bullets, and no muzzle flash (unlike Unique and...

    Favorite 357 Mag Factory Load?

For me, the Remington-UMC 125 gr JSP is the liveliest .357 round I've shot out of my Ruger GP-100s. In my GP-100 with a 6" barrel, I chronoed it at an average of 1,625 fps. I shot it at a Birchwood Casey metal spinning target at 15 yards and got a visible crater on the front side of the plate...

    S & W Model 442-2 Airweight J Frame .38 Spec 5 shot

I use Five Star Speedloaders with a Hogue Monogrip on my 638. The work perfectly without any modifications. IMHO, the 5 Star speedloaders are superior to the HKS.

IMR 4064 in 7mm Remington Magnum

The 2019 Hodgdon Annual Manual (available at newstands everywhere) has only two loads for 4064 in 7mm Rem Magnum. One is for a 100gr Sierra HP with a maximum charge of 61.5 gr using Winchester brass and Winchester Large Pistol Magnum Primers. The second is for a 110 gr. Speer Hollow Point...

    RCBS Powder measure

This is good to know. I've switched to the large drum in my Uniflow when loading 5.56 and .223. The charges were consistent when using ball powder (WW-748) and small cylindrical powder (VV-133 and VV-135). I'll try using the small drum with this caliber going forward. Chris

Up till now I have not had to deal with leading---

A set of pin gauges will determine the size of your cylinder throats most accurately. However, you can also get a .357" diameter jacketed bullet and a .358" lead bullet. Clean the cylinder throats thoroughly and try to push each size bullet through the throats from the chamber using the eraser...
