    2024 Hunting Picture Thread

The 4th is furthest back, if you look to the left above my right shoulder, where the plain snow meets the grassy snow, his white neck is pointing left and his back is brown. Hard to see, but thats where he fell. I cant wait for Wade to get outta school and crew up with us.

    2024 Hunting Picture Thread

Heres what I have saved to the laptop, not actually many, but with the wifes cell phone, a small genny and Starlink outside the tent, heres what I got; Spring is apon us and about 2-3 weeks early. The wife and I have the 4 year old grandson along, teaching him basic hunting. Wade is in school...

I have a strange fascination with Milsurps...

I was infected with Mosinitus 37 years ago shooting an old Finn '91 Mosin, an "M-24"at a dump and was astounded with its accuracy. Then I bought me a Finn 28/30 and a case of Chinese 7.62x54 on stripper clips, and never looked back. Its incurable and if Im not careful, terminal. "Every Free...

    Naval Rifles

My grandfather Frank Cormeir served in the #2 turret to an 8 inch rifle on board the USS Tuscaloosa, '37 to Dec '45. That was his battle station, while his duty station was the crane operator for the retrieving the seaplanes they carried for spotting the artillery aboard, among other things. I...

    .22 Rifle Accuracy

100 yards is decent shooting, for a .22lr, but about max for decent .22lr. I like Remington .22lR, but not the Thunderbolts. 1 in 5 is a dud in cold weather. The golden 40 grain solids match my sights, and go off most all the time, so I stick with them. Decent ammo is one of the 3 things you...

Added another AK to the collection.

For "The Best" in 5.56, Norinco, Saiga, Zastava and Romainian AK's are near flawless, and very adaptable.

    Daughters out hunting

"Ice", LOL! Fresh water ice will shatter when thin and cant bear weight, Saltwater ice will bend and flex as bit before giving in. First, from shore, we have "Land Fast Ice" which is frozen to the land and beach, often for quite a ways out, depending on conditions, sometimes for miles. Between...

    Daughters out hunting

They are allotted "Strikes" on Bowhead Whales, the Ingutuk is the smaller, more tender ones. As I understand it, The big old ones will hunt you right back, so are seldom taken, and it keeps the mature Bowhead birthing and raising more Bowhead. So, like mot of Nature they target the young ones...

    Daughters out hunting

Tinmiaq, our oldest daughter has been up in Point Hope, or more like 7 miles out on the flaw ice supporting the Hunters of her Honey and their Whaling Crew. They scored a nice fat 'Ingutuk' Bowhaed and have cut it up and given it all away. Her share is pretty big, but the tons of meat and...

    Small game rifle.

Good choice, a .22lr is a universal cartridge all the world round. Excellent meat making round, as small game abounds, and self defence in a pinch. If you havent allready, Find a spare mag or two, a good sling , a cleaning kit and your set.

    Finally, another MiniMilsurp-

Yep, GG, it's a NM Springfeild M1A. Ive used it for a few years now, since my eyesight changed a bit. The peeps are great as I age. I painted the stock a few times for summer/winter, and the white paint flaked in the deep cold for a nice effect. If I dont break or wear the gun out , as I have...

    Finally, another MiniMilsurp-

My grandson Wade with a Marlin Youth .22lr single shot I trimmed and slimmed many many years ago when my sons were so young. "Pumeper" is its name. And a couple years later, he hunts with a 'mini', as his cousin Sabbi starts with the 'Pumeper' this year. gonna be fun to watch with two upfront...

Saw this and was surprised to see this rifle still wearing its chrysanthemum

Its a Type 38 6.5x53 Japanese long rifle. They also made carbine versions. The two gas vent holes on the receiver ring say T-38. If it were one vent hole, it would be a 7.7x58 Type 99. Clean it carefully, but lightly. See if the screws are still staked before you start to turn them, they...

    Ruger Mini-14 accuracy

The 'older' sights with a single fat blade and wide peep were hard to hit precisely with. Luckily, they have been modernized with a narrower blade, protective ears and a ring for a peep. Mucho better sights are for sale , if you have an older series, and I have refitted a couple sets on my...

Local Government Encourages Citizen To Arm Themselves
