True, but the OP said he's looking for a "All practical, no BS" carry gun, so the roll-mark is probably less of an issue than it would be if he were looking for a BBQ gun. Function before fashion. ;)

Also, unless you have documentation and an itemized invoice from a well-known 'smith for the work that was done, the "upgrades" actually hurt the resale value of the gun. Some folks, myself included, will generally avoid "project" guns.

Looking at the dimensions posted by S&W, it's really not that much smaller overall. It's .25" thinner than the 9c, but all the rest of the dimensions seem to be within ~.5" or so.

No, but I did sell my 638 and replace it with a Kahr CM9. It's slightly heavier, but it holds two more rounds and is flatter and easier for me to conceal.

Depending how "meaty" your hands are, you may be able to get by with just bobbing the hammer spur a bit. I have an ORM 1991A1 that was done this way and have never been bitten by it.

I think S&W should've released it as a Sigma II and dropped the old Sigma from the lineup, or found a way to incorporate the new trigger into the older model.

If you don't mind the drive, Dana Safety Supply in Sugar Hill, GA sells the 9mm and .40 cal. M&P models for $399 (($455 with night sights) and you don't need to show LE/military credentials. I'm sure they'd be willing to ship to your local dealer if you don't feel like making drive.
