    Are Combat Shotguns Obsolete?

For a main battle rifle? No. I agree with the above poster who said a primary combat weapon should be a radio (technically the brain but communications are vital too). Then again the same applies for the police, the radio, but for law enforcement applications the shotgun has much more...

    Ptr91f

If you get a PTR without the rail welded on it from the factory, prepare to spend some money mounting glass. You have claw mounts which are expensive (the good ones STANAG) and have a very high mount, but allow for irons and glass. The MFI rail is cheaper and also works but like the welded...

Or more like 20ft. Can really annoy other range goers.

    Ptr91f

Accurate, reliable to a fault, nose heavy, some say abrupt recoil for an automatic (I disagree), and it chews the hell out of your brass (use steel for plinking). That's the PTR in a nutshell.

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

I stand corrected, by "gas tube" I meant the piston (though upon second thought, the piston may have been chromed...I didn't remove it and look) and by "receiver" I meant the chamber. Thanks helping to clarify, I've edited the above post.

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

If you're looking for an inexpensive (relatively speaking) fixed stock AK, I should mention that the gunshop guys showed me a CAI, 100% US made AK with a milled receiver. Despite not having a chrome lined chamber or barrel, the action and trigger on the gun were excellent. Very, very smooth...

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

Final update and happy ending. Atlantic Arms shipped a new rifle on Monday once they were able to confirm KVAR had the other rifle back in their possession. Anyhow, I picked up the replacement from my FFL today. Excellent customer service but still somewhat dismayed that Arsenal let such a...

AR Cold Hammer Forged vs Standard Govt Chrome Lined

Thanks guys, that's about what I suspected.

AR Cold Hammer Forged vs Standard Govt Chrome Lined

Right, I see both are chrome lined, both 1:7 twist, etc. I'm guessing the difference between the two is marginal for semi-auto fire unless shooting tens of thousands or rounds...but I cannot find a side by side comparison anywhere. :banghead:

AR Cold Hammer Forged vs Standard Govt Chrome Lined

Okay guys, looking into getting a BCM middy but there is a $100 option for a cold hammer forged barrel or the standard chrome lined govt. barrel. I know cold hammer forged is supposed to be the "go to" for AKs but how about for ARs? Are the benefits really tangible on lightweight bullets...

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

@W.E.G. If I had transferred the rifle, it would have become a warranty issue and cut Atlantic Arms options. Since I didn't transfer it, they (Atlantic) are sending me a new one, not KVAR/Arsenal. Also I don't need to fire a rifle to look at it and see the barrel is bent. @Trent by "massive"...

    Palmetto State Armory ordering question

I ordered some ammo from them once...took quite a while to ship compared to some others (such as Sportsman's Guide).

    Why isn't there a demand for a short/low recoil/affordable .50 caliber pistol round?

Trust me, if a major federal US law enforcement agency or the military decide to develop and issue a .50 caliber handgun, they'll saturate the private market with them as well...ala the .40 S&W when the 10mm and the 41AE already existed. The 9mm, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .40 S&W, and...

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

Good info, thanks Sam. Kind of confirms my suspicions that this rifle cannot be "repaired" only "rebuilt" from the ground up. Essentially it's a pile of parts at this point.

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

Update: Blaine at Atlantic Arms called me today (not once but twice since I missed his first call) and assured me that once UPS confirms the rifle on the way back to the distributor, they will ship me a brand new one, that they will inspect prior to shipping. The customer service at Atlantic...

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

Thanks Sam, from what I've seen from this gun and read, it looks like at the very least the gun would have to be rebuilt from the ground up. I'd rather just replace it. To that end, Atlantic said they would call me this afternoon and from the voicemail it sounds like they may just send a...

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

Update: Atlantic worked something out with KVAR, their wholesaler, who contacted my FFL and will be sending a shipping label to the gun shop to have the gun shipped back to KVAR. They informed me at that time they will decide whether or not to repair or replace the gun. I have been very...

I heard from Bradly at Atlantic, he is contacting Arsenal and will hit me back this afternoon. So far, both organizations have been quick to respond.

Arsenal AK = Massive Fail (pics included)

For the cost...for what you get? Yeah, massive. This isn't a $450 AK with a canted sight. As I said before, a cursory "eyeballing" of the AK would show that this thing was defective yet someone held this and placed it in a box to ship and sell. An absolute fail in quality control at every...
